Wasn't there someone in the Science Fiction section asking about this awhile back?

Picked up all 5 movies, the documentary, the tv show, and the cartoon series last spring... we had a HUGE marathon of our own in May. It was fun b/c my son had never seen it before. He loved it! It was almost like seeing it for he first time.

I have only seen the original (and the remake), but never seen the other four. I remember watching the series a little when I was a kid.

Well, I guess I will be soaking up the films on that day. It's great to have it play in the background when you're sewing an ape outfit. It really gets you in the mood.
I already have the VHS of all the 5 films, but there's added excitement about it when it's shown on tv.

I recorded all 5 movies in letterbox, plus Behind the POTA when Roddy McDowall was hosting this event (RIP) for the 30th Anniversary on AMC a few years back. I also recorded all of the TV series w/ Roddy's commentary from the Sci-Fi channel. Though it is exciting watching this in real time, I don't know if I'll have time this year.
APES RULE!:ape:

Cool! I'll tune in. I'm still hoping we get a real POTA movie again. I would like to see it pick up where Battle left off though. I dont care for the most recent movie.

My only beef with this is it's airing on AMC,which means commercials.

Yes, commercials are a major annoyance--as welcome as accidentally chewing on a bit of tinfoil--but I guess it's ok because you have to refill the bowl of popcorn, right?

I am glad they are doing a POTA marathon but sometimes the picture quality of the movies are not the best, but hey at least they are showing it. Does anyone else think the POTA TV series was underrated? I remember being super psyched as a kid that they were doing a TV series based on the movies. Those are the best memories of being young, I do not think kids these days get excited about anything like we did, they sure can not fathom only having 4-5 channels on the TV. Ah, the good old days of the early 70's.

I just purchased the DVD of the TV series, and it's as great as I remember! And...that Carsia is way hot. Too bad she was evil.

Amen and pass the biscuits! And I love the 70s series. Sometimes I'll pop in a tape I made of the show and pull out the Megos!
And I was lucky, 'cos when I taped these movies from AMC, it was before they showed commercials.

When did AMC start showing commercials, I do not watch many movies on TV anymore but the last time I remember they did not have commercials, is this a recent thing?

Wasn't '98 the 30th anniversary? I believe that's when I taped this. Roddy McDowall hosted the marathon of movies w/ Behind the POTA. I was glad he got to see this great series of movies turn 30 before he died.

AMC and Bravo starting showing commercials some years back, maybe 5 or 6 years. I miss recording cool movies w/o the ads on those channels. Nowadays, I record from TCM.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try to keep, that's a lot oif movies, lol.
Too bad AMC has not gotten their act together and have a HD channel, lots of them have one already (like TBS, TNT, A & E, USA, History, National Geographic, Discovery, etc...).

Turned on the tv as soon as I got home and I'm still enjoying it (while I'm wearing my chimp fleece sweater that I made!!). I turned on the tv and got to the part where Dr. Galen was talking to Zira about the quota system--so I didn't miss too much.

You know, I have the all the movies in the Caesar head but still ended up watching part of Apes and later all of Escape on AMC. I was doing stuff so I guess I was reserving the no commercial widescreen off DVD showings for when I could give it 100% attention.
It's so sad to see what AMC is today compared to what it was though. I caught a little bit of Shirley Temple's Curly Top on AMC around Christmas and it was colorized.
This from a channel that in the 80's and 90's used to have a featurette between movies preaching against colorization.
I have to acknowledge that there is still stuff worth watching/recording on AMC and also they have a lower commercial to program time ratio than most cable networks but the days of it being something very special are long gone.
Thank goodness TCM hasn't changed (so far).

That would've been interesting to see if they had went and did a sixth movie back in the day. Make it go full circle. Show what would happen this time with all of the changes and see what happens when Taylor winds up in the future.
