Hi garagesale, the christmas Dr Who special was good,i wont give anything away as i dont want to spoil it for anyone!

It was nice to see the Dr back, yes and to see Kylie in the mix to,not a bad story but i didnt like the HOST's that much,Daleks would of been better, that's me being bias, the ending was good, had me thinking the baddie was someone else until he was revealed.

All in all it was quite good, hope you enjoy the christmas special.

No they are robots called Host's who give out information about the ship they are traveling on and stuff like that.

          One last question ........
Does this story refer back to any classic series episodes where the "Titanic" is mentioned, specifically "The Invasion of Time" ?

I just watched the whole episode.
              It's on youtube.......

              spoiler talk below -----------------------

The new theme song is a bit strange.
I don't like the begining beat of it.
The beat sounds off --like its out of tune.........
One thing I do like..... VERY subtle.
              Right after the oooo--eee---ooo part.......
The sound drops to a low pitch feedback ooo, not heard since I think the Troughton days.

At the end of the episode..... when Tennant enters the TARDIS....
              Theres a very low THUD.
This is classic pre lift-off sound on the old series.
I'm glad to see the thud return.

The episode itself, I thought was kind of mediocre.

The character ASTRID is an anagram of TARDIS maybe Astrid was playing a living part of the TARDIS as a 1 off for xmas?

Didnt notice the music, may have to watch it again,as its worth a 2nd look.

                  Spoilers:

Rumors that were circulating had Astrid as a human avatar of the TARDIS (or something like that), but they didn't seem address it in the episode...Perhaps they dropped the idea or maybe there were very subtle hints that I didn't catch. If she was some sort of humanoid part of the TARDIS, she didn't seem to be aware of it.

I really liked the episode (even though it was kind of sad)...The Host reminded me of the killer robots of Robots of Death (I think they were meant to, though). There were homages galore in the special (ship disaster flicks, other Doctor Who episodes, etc...)...A lot of folks(on other message boards) are ripping the special apart for the homages (calling them rip-offs), but I thought it was great. Kylie was quite good as I thought she would be (she has had a bit of acting experience here and there). I started getting teary when Foon's husband died and then Foon herself. I lost it when Astrid died (there are rumors that she might be back) and sobbed...LOL...I couldn't help it.

As you probably now know, Mike...The episode didn't involve the historic Titanic.

There was a big Poseidon Adventure feel to it.

After everyone died, I can almost imagine Tennant doing a Gene Hackman impression yelling into space "HOW MANY MORE !!! ????"

I liked it, nothing earth shattering but a good adventure. The story was somewhat predictable but I expected that when I saw who wrote it. The hosts were cool and the Doctor's speech about who he was made me smile, normally he shrouds himself in mystery I liked his reveal.

I will say this, what the hell does RTD have against the obese? It seems to be a recurring theme to pick on them.

Yea, I noticed that too right off the bat.

It's not like RTD is the skinniest person in the world either.

                          One observation,
Semi chunky people LOVE to pick on the obese...
I think it gives them security about their own look.

At the end when the Doctor said, "only Britian is great"

I thought it was poor myself...the performances and special effects were great as usual ,but I think the story was dire, the protangonist awful and on the whole the episode was as bad as "Love and Monsters". The trailer for the upcoming season looked ok though....thought the Doc could have used the Tardis to capyure Astrid's "spirit" at the end though......Nice to see Bernard Cribbins though...apparently he'll turn up a few times in the new season.
