Just curious...didn't see it mentioned in the book. The Falcon I have has regular type 2 hands...not ape hands. It was purchased from an antiques dealer. Anyone else have this variation???

Falcon Hand Variation....
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

Could the body have been swapped? I know I have a Gorn on a type 1 body. I have not seen evidence anywhere of this so I figured the body was of an ape or something.Website for rare and exciting figures for the 1950s to present, now featuring MANY Action Figure Protective Clamshell cases -- ZoloWorld.com

Unless you got it MOC there's no way to prove it's a legitimate variation. For all we know that antiques dealer swapped bodies or maybe that's the way he got it himself and the previous owner swapped bodies"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

I love the book, but let's not discount our own gallery as a point of reference...
Falcon: WGSH Gallery: Mego Museum
Mego did seem to miss the fact that Falcon had gloves in the comics however. Also many Falcon figures had Planet of the Apes hands. No doubt this was recycling bodies from the then cancelled Apes line to a more popular character. Regular hand versions of the Falcon can be found as well.Variations
The only major variation in the Falcon are the hands. Hands from earlier in the run are Planet of the Apes hairy hands, and later issue Falcons have normal hands.

I don't have the book in front of me now, but I believe Ben makes mention of this in either the parts section at the beginning of the book, or in the specific Falcon chapter. An old Irish Blessing - "May those who love us, love us; and if they do not love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He does not turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, that we may know them by their limping"Comment

It appears this issue is essentially 'asked and answered,' but I just wanted to post a specific citation. Book readers can see List Item #4 in the "Gallery Notes" that appear in the upper right corner of page 13 (the Primer & Toy Overview chapter):
In hindsight, I could have made a bigger issue of the standard human hands' existence, but I thought the comparative language in both the Primer and Falcon chapters was clear enough. I'm very sorry for any confusion this caused. The Falcon hands were originally created for Mego's Planet of the Apes line in 1974. Some (but not all) Type 1 and Type 2 Falcon figures utilize this hand; Others use the hairless hand. For additional information, see the Falcon chapter.

I would imagine the confusion might stem from the fact that there was a Black Superfriends character at that time named Black VULCAN (who was based on Black Lightning).
Were the cartoon-only Ethnic Superfriends ever considered by Mego? Guys like Apache Chief and Samurai (who seemed to be the only one who made it to action figure format via SuperPowers).Comment

Paul,
I know one of the commercials/sales presentations refers to him as
"the great Black Super Hero" but where did Mego call him "Black Falcon" ?
