View Full Version : Re-Stringing new Doc bodies....

Has anyone tried restringing one of Paul's new mego bodies (with the LJN arms)?

I'm trying to mix and match limbs from two bodies and it dawned on me that they might not be strung together like my old figures were.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm using a Phantom Limb body for a AtomicMan custom and need to switch a leg.

Thanks

I was messing with one yesterday and busted a hip pin so I had to restring. luckily I had an extra hip pin so I just swapped it out.

It looked to me like the shoulder attachment was a little different. Also the right arm was attached to the right leg (same for left side). I always thought the bands were crossed on regular mego bodies (i.e. right arm to left leg).

I pulled the leg out to see how it's attached and popped the hip pin last night.

I'm hoping I can use and elastic and not make a mess of it too badly.

that's exactly how I popped the hip pin. hmmm.

I took a metal wire and twisted a small hook on the end to grab the hooks on the elastic. it was easier to thread and pull everything thru the body that way. It took a while, but I was finally able to get it.

good luck.

I did.

Did it to my Brick and used shock cord. Definitely much better articulation now.

I broke the hip pin on one of Doc's original brown bodies, by stretching the band to see how it was strung.
Exactly how you both did! :costumed-smiley-009

I think Doc needs to do away with the hip pins, and adapt a system like Craig's ZICA bodies.

No offense Doc, but those hip pins are the pits!

They worked for MEGO.

Before trying to "Stretch Armstrong" the body, you might try revolving the
arms to slacken the tension on the rubber bands. Some of the assemblers
at the factory got a little carried away in trying to make the bodies "tight".
This puts strain on the hook of the hip pin.

Okay Doc.

Thanks for the advice Paul. I'll try revolving the arms and then start tugging.

Hmmmm....

I've had a few different makes of body break at the hip-hook. One solution I've used is to drill through the hip ball of the leg, across the hole where the hook is inserted front to back of the leg) and run a round toothpick through. Then you can loop the string from a restringing over it. Works pretty good, and has saved more than a few CTVTs from the pee-pee dance.

I'm now 2 for 2 popping hip pins on these new bodies. I think for figures that don't require a lot of manipulation, they're awesome. Restrung, they're perfect.

I successfully switched out the body using a non conventional way. Looks great.

I ended up using a CTVT hip pin because it was more sturdy.
