I was thinking about Christmas decorations outside of the house a few days ago, and how easy it would be to rip them off, as we drove around.

Idiot kids. When you are young you are too self-absorbed to realize that "hilarious time we stole the Christmas decorations" equals someone else's "sad family at Christmas time because some jerks stole our decorations".
That truly sucks, D.
Some folks have no respect for other peoples property. A few years back, we had our pair of animated deer a little too close to the street and I woke up to find Papa deer getting all up in Mama deers action. They were not stolen, at least, but I did have to explain to my kids why the deer were getting frisky in the front lawn. :smiley1:

I feel for you D. My son was recently robbed. My wife and I went on a trip for the weekend and our son stayed over at our house to be with our daughter. When we got back we found out his roommate had "left the door unlocked" at their apartment and someone took his PS3, Xbox 360, watch, clothes, all his video games and some cash he had hidden. Circumstances led me to believe that the roommate actually took all of the stuff and not some fictitious thief. Seeing my 19 year old son in tears over losing most of his valuables made me want to beat the crap out of the roommate, for leaving the door open, if nothing else. Now that I am sure it was him, I really have to calm myself or I will end up in jail. The feeling of being violated like that is pretty bad and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Every year, here in Ghent, they put up a giant christmas tree, full of ornaments, in the city center.
The next couple of days, all ornaments up to a height of about 8 feet get stolen. And when you know that the ornaments for this tree are huge (it has 18" balls:smiley1:), you have to ask yourself: what the **** are they going to do with those things?
I can see a guy thinking: "You know what would really make my Christmas this year? A set of 18 inch balls!!!!"

Apparently the low life's that stole your decorations don't know that you have a new shot gun. It was just too bad that they did not stick around long enough for you to get to show it to them.
Check this out. This is a true story. A couple of years ago in or around Saint Louis some idiots even went as far as stealing a nativity scene from a church. Now that is pretty darn low and very sad to say the least. I to believe in Karma and like they say Karma is a ***** when you do wrong.
Go with security cameras when you can do it. I have them up everywhere on my property and my area is considered a really nice area to live in. I had put them up quite some time ago. Reason being because one I love gadgets, two I have three other places that I stay some times thru out the US. And three you just never know when some outsider may come by thinking they can hit a nicer area as an easy target. Little do they realize that the only target will be them. :smiley1:

Sorry to hear this. Nothing is sacred anymore. They even steal the Brass Urns off of gravesites.
On The news tonight was a story about a man who planted a new 8' spruce in his front yard and decorated it for Christmas. Someone chained it to the back of their truck, pulled it out of the ground and took off! They showed where they stopped and loaded it up. You could see the trail of the rootball and a broken ornament and some limbs.
Unbelievable.

They're not even zombies, cuz zombies don't have the intellect of the average fruit fly.
I hope the indoor decorations will make up for the lack of outdoor ones.

Man, that is awful! Might have been teens. I remember back in my college days, me and a buddy were home on break and went out one night. When we got back to his parent's house at 1 am, someone had TP'd the whole house & lawn. My friend noticed movement under his mom's car, so he got his bat and sat on the car and started talking to the kid under there. A bunch of high school kids had just finished their deed when we pulled up and this one kid got left behind. At the crack of dawn, my friend let the kid out from under the car and then made him clean the whole house & yard up.

If that scenario were to be the case...that dude would still deserve a beatdown...he has absolutely no right whatsoever to do that to another family...sorry...that's no excuse for him to rob someone else...besides...he can look into much more effective alternatives...like loving his own family a little extra without the need for artificial things...but thieving, no matter what the reason...exposes him to being caught (jail), or worse...badly hurt...and then how his own family would feel about that...the dad would be risking all for a couple of blow up figures...bad imprint to leave on his family...and consequently...his children would suffer the most at the end...not worth it...bad scenario all the way around.
The better thing for that "scenario" father would've been to knock on Damien's door with his entire family...and explain his dire situation...perhaps Damien would've donated something...it sure beats him stealing his stuff.
I'm saying that because that kinda happened to me...not at my door...but in the streets...and entire family with kids begging for money...that really saddened me...so I handed them a $20 bill...perhaps that was not a lot...but you should've seen how their eyes lit up...they were really appreciative...and I'm sure lots of other people handed them either money, toys, or even food.
Just don't steal from other people...that's one of the lowest of the low...no matter what the reasons.

I got sick and tired of picking up and replacing mailboxes. So I bought the biggest Rural box I could find and cemented a normal box inside it. One morning I came out and there was a small dent in it and a broken bat on the ground.
When I moved to a new house I moved the mailbox there in front of a telephone pole. While my neighbors lost theirs I never had a problem.

Sorry to hear this . . . Especially for your boy. You know, if you have funds, I'd go out and get another one. Set it up and show the little f's that took it that thy don't control your happiness. I have a couple items like this and I put them in places that I can secure them with bailing wire. They might be able to grab it but it's gonna fight back pretty hard, which is usually enough to deter kids. Anyway, again sorry to hear.
Stealing food or needed clothes I can forgive under the right circumstances.
No way can I forgive stealing Christmas decorations
These people (probably kids) are just trash
You can take comfort in the fact someday in the future when they mature they will remember what they did and will most likely feel really guilty.

When I was little, my dad always went out of his way to decorate for Halloween.
He worked two jobs, and when he'd get home at 11PM he'd go down to his workshop and start working on making the decorations (usually lifesized monsters to put in our garden in front of the house... made of wood, old clothes and halloween masks.)
One year a dirtbag stole the witch my dad made. Man, was my dad upset.
He built another one the following weekend and wired it to emit a jolt of electricity, and framed the thing in outgoing nails. The night after he put it up we heard noise outside, and my dad went out to check it out. Dumbass teenage dirtbag from across the street Larry, was laying on the ground in our garden in pain.
So my dad, being my dad opens the front door and looks at Larry and says "Need help stealing my s--t? Cause I can call your dad over to help you."
Things didn't end well for Larry.

My wife bought those solar panel lights to decorate the edging of a sidewalk and the same thing happened. Gone the next day. They also go through the garbage at night if it looks like any thing is interesting.
Last year, a guy knocks on the door trying to sell something a few days after Christmas. I was in the other room and was a few steps behind but I know he got a great look inside my house. I got him outside and started asking him all about his "product" which he didn't have nor any flier with a name or phone number. His friends picked him up in a van a little while later.
Next day, I had an alarm system installed and I use it religiously.
I hate people who are too lazy and take from hard working, honest folk!

So my dad, being my dad opens the front door and looks at Larry and says "Need help stealing my s--t? Cause I can call your dad over to help you."
Things didn't end well for Larry...
:rotfl: That's a great story!
I don't understand how people can feel good about themselves during the Holidays when they steal people's stuff. Jerks.

Sounds like theft for profit. Your display stuff will probably show up at a flea market. Those things are hot items. Too bad in our area the freaks are worse. My brother had one of those inflatable Christmas display things. The local kids slashed it.

Sorry to hear that and agree probably teenager or young adults. We had a string of robberies going around recently where the intruder would enter an unlocked door in the middle of the night, steal anything within a few feet of the door and leave. You have to have some major guts to walk in and steal while people are sleeping...they did catch the person who was an 18 year old punk. Even more gut wrenching...my sister had a premature baby a few years ago who died a few weeks after being born (never came out of the hospital). They buried him in an infant cemetary and some scum bag went around stealing flowers placed on the gravesites in there including my nephew's. My sister was beside herself when that happened.
