    1978 Mattel Electronic Games Catalog

Electronic games have come an incredible way since 1978 but it's hard not to fondly remember the simple pleasure of these awesome hand helds by Mattel. Without the sophistication available today, these games were not only fun to play but affordable as well.

1978 was a year of modest but popular offerings including a game I would consider the best hand held game of all time:

    Love the Brick counter display!

My cousins had some of the Mattel games. I recall Football, basketball, and baseball I think. I had the Spider-Man and Hulk handheld games later.

      Now that's entertainment!

I believe the Space Alert game was also sold as a Battlestar Galactica game. My buddy had one. I would have had one but my parents didn't want me distracted from my school work.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Those games were and still are, true greatness! Have the Football game here in my office at work.

I still have that very same basketball and football game that I had as a kid. The very same ones. And they still get played. LOVE THEM!

I picked up a working basketball and football games a few years back. These were directly the path away from Megos and action figures when I was a kid. From here these gateway items led to Atari, hours and hours at the local arcade... I think girls were the final nail in my Mego-collecting coffin back then.

BTW, is that an actual Brick display box? It looks like you really covered a box with Brick artwork. I think it would be high-larious if you took and actual vintage Mego display box and glued a bunch of Brick artwork to it. Cajones grande, mi amigo!

It's a lysol box I found at "food N stuff" earlier in the day.

I initially thought about just making a header card and using a Mego one as the base but it would have stressed me out all day.

I had that Battlestar Galactica game. It was awesome.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
