I don't think I can count any of the Evil Deads or Army of Darkness as proper zombie movies.
I'm going to go with Peter Jackson's Dead Alive AKA Braindead.

1 Original Dawn of the Dead
2 Shaun of the Dead
3 Lifeforce (I know it's vampire type hybrids but they look and act like zombies while feeding)
Bubbling under "Blind dead" movies, "Re Animator", "The Serpent and the Rainbow","Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies" and "Demons".

I'm going to go with "Shaun of the Dead", followed by the original "Night of the Living Dead". "White Zombie" gets honorable mention as well.

Hmmmm....
I think my FAVOURITE would be "Wild Zero," even though the zombies are almost scenery. "Rust" and "Cemetary Man" would be tied for a very close second. "Dead Alive" is third; just for the lawnmower scene.

I'd probably have to go with Return of the Living Dead and I remember liking Wild Zero.

The original Dawn Of The Dead. Best zombie flick ever made IMO. It was just so realist to me. Im not talking about the effects, but the humans and the way they reacted. From the talk show and the folks in denial who kept their dead in the apartment building's basement, to the red necks hunting them for sport, just very realistic human behavior that puts that movie above the rest.

Very cool to see DAY appear on a lot of peeps top-3's.
I personally love the movie but it seems to usually get lost in the shuffle when people talk about zombie flicks.

Day of the Dead (Bub rules!)
Shaun of the Dead
after that, Night, Dawn, (Original) and Land of the Dead
Return was awesome,
Dawn's remake was pretty damned good too,
Fulci's Zombie get's a honorable mention,
after that, Revolt of the Zombies is a classic.
Now the "Zack" movies that sucked,
HARD ROCK ZOMBIES (When you see this on a shelf, run.)
Zombie Honeymoon (UGH!)
Fulci's Zombi 3 (I was expecting a classic instead I got a horrible awakening. Another one to run from. If you don't run you may get the stink of poop on you.)
Here's something cool to check out, "Dead Patrol" one of my dear friends is Art director for this online show and it's pretty damned good.
Here's the link, enjoy!

For me, it was the line "I kick *** for the Lord!"
Cemetary Man is certainly amongst the most artful horror films I've ever seen. The ending is certainly interesting! I had heard that Cemetary Man was based on the european comic series Dylan Dog.

I believe that the Evil Dead movies are pretty much universally beloved at this point.
I think my point was that it's difficult to pigeon-hole The Evil Dead movies into proper Zombie films in the Romero tradition. Rather than being re-animated dead, I view them as bodies (both alive and dead) that are possesed by demonic entities. Particularly given some of their transformative powers. Flesh seems to be like Clay to the Evil Dead.

Man Living dead at the manchester morgue and The Beyond...i'd forgotten those two....and now remember who's got my copy of manchester morgue...must get it back....packs shotgun and gets army of shaved monkeys ready...:yeah:
This thread inspired me to watch Dawn (the original) again.
Something I never noticed before ........
Ever notice..... ?
The nun.........
The yellow pull-over sweater guy.....
...and the zombie who took Roger's gun ....
....somehow lasted all the way to the end of the movie ?
Shouldn't these zombies have been killed in the mall clean-up scenes ?

Who'd ever have thought you could have made such an innovative Zombie flick like 28 Weeks Later by simply having ZOMBIES WHO RUN!!!
Bo8a_Fett

Worked alot better than the Dawn remake because they weren't zombies per say but plague driven humans. It was the running zombies that put me off the Dawn remake...
1: Night of the living Dead
2: Shaun of the Dead
3: 28 days later
