Star Wars Holiday Special | The RiffTrax Store (http://shop.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/star-wars-holiday-special)
For those not in the know, rifftrax is a new project from some of the guys behind MST 3K, you download the tracks and watch them alongside the film to get their comments. It's brilliant stuff and cheap too!
My only problem with this is that I'll have to watch the holiday special again.

Watched it in 78 and again in 2005 That's 4 hours I'll never get back (less the 5 minutes of the boba fett cartoon)

If I recall he was in BAD car accident shortly before the taping so they had to overdo all his makeup and it was 1978

I remember back in 78 thinking, *** happened to Luke.
Which show was worse.
A. The Star Wars Holiday Special
B. Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park

Star Wars Holiday special definitely. At least KISS MTP had a fun, goofy B movie mad scientist plot to movie it along. I can watch KMTP all the way through. I have to fast forward through lots of SWHS passing the boring parts to land on the laughingly bad parts (and the good cartoon).

What bugs me is that I don't speak Wookiee, so I can't understand alot of the opening stuff in the Holiday Special. When I was a kid I loved it, but while watching it as an adult, I had to turn it off. I too prefer KISS MTP, and eagerly await my Christmas copy of Kissology Volume 2 so that I can see it again in some form. "Attack of the Phantoms" or whatever.

BOY is that a toughie but I gotta say Kiss meets the Phantom (if the SW special didn;t have Boba Fett it would lose out)

CBS offered him a BIG bag of money and remember he hadn't started to get all his big return for SW and was gearing up to shoot Empire so he was distracted. He was told about the fett sequences and probably give a brief outline but this was the only time he let others have control. he got bit and that is why he has never allowed it's legal release since so the bootlegers have been making money off it ever since. the only question is how many generations of VHS happened before the copy someone wathces got burned to DVD

I stole mine from Limewire back in the day (can I say that here?) and it's all DIVX juicy and looks about like Sportscenter does when I watch that on my digital cable. It rawks and my wife HATES it.

Believe it or not, I'm mad jealous that you remember that!
I'm sure that I did watch the original broadcast, and I'm sure that it was on a crappy and tiny b&w TV, and I really should have at least a lingering memory of it, but I don't. :(

Oh yeah my brother and I got to watch the TV in our parents room and even to my 8 year old brain we thought it was pretty bad except for the cartoon. SO when I saw it years later at a convention we were like "maybe it will be better to an adult brain" I should have known if a child thought it was bad it was awful. But at least i could fast forward ALOT.

I hate to admit that at the time I was of the attitude that "It's Star Wars, so it's all good". It was just cool to see the Star Wars gang on TV and I didn't think anything about the underlying suckitude of the show itself. Still I found it odd that there were long stretches of Wookie Banter with no subtitles.
