View Full Version : Anyone have a Mancave?
Adam West
Oct 1, '11, 11:52 PM
Just recently putting one together myself and love it. I now have teenagers who want to watch shows on our family room tv that I have no interest in, my wife decorates most of our house which I generally like but nothing that I love and have finally decided to decorate "the mancave". Definitely a work in progress. I finally took the time to properly display my collectibles and is a visual display that appeals to me alone (in my house). I am now contemplating upgrading the mancave analog tv to HD since my kids hog our only HDTV to watch Teen Nick or some other teenage show that I can't stand. On the weekends; I basically barricade myself in the evening and sleep in the mancave. My wife doesn't mind (at least she hasn't said so) and it gives me an opportunity to catch up on some reading or movies I wanted to watch but never had a chance.
Anyone besides me have one or putting one together?

Yep, I have a similar refuge. I laid claim to our basement bedroom when we moved into our current house. It's where I keep my toy collection, books, computer desk, and this summer I added an HDTV and audio system. If I had a fridge and toilet in that room, I might never leave it. :smiley1:

I'm working on it! Hopefully in the next few months I will have my own man cave . I can't wait to display my collection. I hate having it boxed up :ugh_y:.

I put a 2200 Sf addition on to my house in 2009, the top floor being my Mancave and office....700 sf room, houses the bar, entertainment center and my office.....toys on display as I like it....not too crowded but a nice variety of what I like.....it's still a partial work in progress as I have one wall I have not decided what to do with yet.
we do have family movie nights every weekend up there but otherwise the kids are only allowed up there at my invitation

Mine is 500 square feet basement room (we added on to the house..) that the wife painted and decorated while I was on my first deployment.
50" plasma, Surroundsound 5.1 (wired behind the drywall..), and my guitars/amps in the corner.
It's a very earthy, Starbucksy-color theme, cool Stones/blues pics up, separate bath/shower and wetbar.. Very relaxing, and it ROCKS.
Hmmmm....
That's kinda what my whole house is.

I am bitterly jealous. I love our small house, but buying a house without a mancave/toyroom option was the biggest mistake of my life.
But honestly, when we bought this place I thought I was moving out of this phase of my life.
Whoops.

I have a closet with lost of brown boxes and some self storage. Been that way since the kids were born, but since I have beaters and stuff that the kids play with, does their stuff in the family room count?

yeah, I Am not crazy about the white either. when i bought the shelves that was the only color they had. i need to take the shelves down and paint the brackets the same color as the wall so they blend in. just not a priority right now

what would ever give you that impression? LOL
yeah, lifelong Beatle maniac here.
I did all the interior work on my addition, insulation on in. we like the wood look so all the interior trim and doors in the house are stained wood.

Nicely Done!
I created a room in the attic above the dinning room. About 11 x12. Added the window and HVAC. Access is through the pull down ladder in the garage and low clearance above untill I get to this

Megoscott, have you thought about getting a storage building in the backyard. Some of them are very sturdy and spacious. Just have to have the space of course (and they can be affordable if you shop around)

I'm the middle of remodeling mine. Will take a couple of months to finish it. I would get done faster, but I have my own fixation on Margarita-ville since Dallas can't put any team away. :please_y:

We are watching Empire Strikes Back on it right now and it looks fantastic. All griping aside, they did a fantastic job on the Star Wars Blu-Ray boxset.

Wow, nice! From everything I've read, it still stands as the best TV ever made. I really wish I would have bought one before they stopped making them.

I agree, from what I've seen so far I've been very happy with the Star Wars BD set (yes, even The Phantom Menace was a huge improvement over the DVD version).
I have a detached 2 1/2 car garage stuffed full of bikes, parts, and other collectibles. I also have a small bedroom that is converted into an office that is also stuffed with NOS bike parts and more collectibles. I guess my man cave would be the garage but it's nothing special to look at. I do have a radio, TV, DVD player, and dish receiver out there so it is my hiding place when I need to be alone.
