Don't forget Dr Who season finale tomorrow
To be honest, i'm going to watch it but i'm not that excited about seeing it.
Seems the most predictable season finale since the new series began in 2005.
I wish Moffat would regenerate already :smiley1:

I'm 28. I only started geting into Doctor Who a couple years ago with David Tennant as the lead. I've seen a couple from the original series as well as a couple of Matt Smith and Christopher Eccleston.... but there's no point. David Tennant is the best Doctor by far in my opinion.
That's why I think he should do a cameo as the Doctor with only one heart who stays with Rose. At least we can have eyebrows back on the Doctor again.

Tennant sucks, River Song sucks, this season sucks, this finale is going to suck. Matt Smith is still awesome. :)
Rumor has it that next season is going to be made up of more individual story episodes, and not focus on a season-long arc, and I say bring it on. 2010 was a great season.

This is the big finish where the doctor dies.
Except if that was true there would be no more Dr Who shows ever and that is not going to happen so therfore he dies but he doesn't...........again.

I'm really interested in seeing how he gets out of this, it will likely involve me rewatching the entire series again.
This has been a fantastic season IMO.

Don't get me wrong palitoy, I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's just really not doingit for me. But that's the nature of the show, some eras really appeal to some folks, while other people like different ones. I would destroy every season after 2005 to get just one Troughton serial back, but hey, that's me. :)

I've grown to like Matt Smith (they're giving him some cracking lines, and he's honed his acting skills nicely), but I'd rate this season about 5/10.
I was really looking forward to the Cybermen, but they'd been reduced to hiding in a women's dressing room, checking her out through the mirror. Nothing special about that, I do that all the time...
I'm also fed up with River Song, and the neverending "End of the Doctor".
Maybe next year will be better...

I'm ok with you not liking it, it doesn't affect my enjoyment either way.
What kills me is a lot of the folks who pine for the "Good ol' days of RTD" sat here and kvetched about him no end during his reign.

I'm kind of getting sick of Amy
It seems they made her the center of almost every story even more than Rose.
Amy's only saving grace is that she's not in love with the Dr. (so far)
I know Amy's a fan favorite but watching Smith last week with that fat guy made me wish Smith would get new companions.
No Amy, No Rory, NO RIVER .......
I'd bet i'd like the show a lot more

I really like RTD's 2005 season, and I love love love "Midnight". I did plenty of *****ing about him, and I wouldn't want him back as showrunner, but the guy definitely brought some good episodes to the table.
I think they need to seperate the showrunner position from the head writer position, or we'll never have consistent quality. Again, just my two cents...

Time they did a Four Doctors special (not that Big Finish Productions audio story), starring McGann, Eccleston, Tennant and Smith.
I also want a flashback segment showing McGann regenerating into Eccleston.
>watching Smith last week with that fat guy made me wish Smith would get new companions
And bring back Stormageddon!

As a fan for 25+ years I'm going to watch but I can't say that this season is my favorite, too much Amy and River stuff. And that coming form someone who thinks Amy is HOT. Hey, I've got a weakness for redheads.

Personally I think that the Doctor that gets killed is "Flesh". That's been a major part of the whole season and he even told his doppelganger that it was possible he could survive.

I am curious to how they're going to pull this off without a paradox, Ever since the first appearance of DR. River Song we all knew how her story ends, but to see her origins this season has been a treat. Now as for Matt Smith, he's growing on me as the DR. at first I thought he wasn't up to the part, but he has really embraced the character with each passing episode. With the Doctor Who anniversary fastly approaching I am hopeful we see past doctors in a very big anniversary storyline as well as favorites like Rose,Capt. Jack Harkness, Donna Noble, Mickey Smith and his awesome wife Martha Jones. and what about the DR.'s Daughter Jenny?
I think they could really do well by acknowledging the passing of Sarah Jane Smith, that would be a very big storyline, as the DR. truly did care for his Sarah Jane.

Don't get me wrong, I've liked the River character it's just been too much for one season. And the whole thing doesn't make since to me - Amy has a baby that's taken from her and she's not obsessed with getting it back because she finds the Doctor will someday find her ( boink her ) and she becomes River? I can't think of any mother that would just go about a normal life and not want her child back. That's why I think this season while there have been good episodes as a whole it weak.

I agree. I'm surprised they haven't so far but I guess all the stories for the season were already set. There are loose ends there to tie up too. What will happen with Luke, Rani, Clyde, the computer Mr. Smith and most importantly K-9 ( I want him back with the Doctor ). It will be a BIG mistake if they don't do something to acknowledge her death. Maybe for the Christmas Special.
Of course they could always say ( that after all her time with the Doctor and in the TRADIS ) she got seriously wounded and her body healed itself changing her appearance a little ( not a real regeneration ) and then cast another actress in the part. I wouldn't do it but who knows what the BBC might do.

Is tonight the full season finale ?
Or is it part-1 of a two part story ?

I was getting a bit worried beforehand, that I was going to hate this episode but...it was absolutely brilliant, and very clever! There's also a lovely touch concerning an old character that nearly bought a tear to my eye. It was a fitting end to the series and left us with a question we've all been asking for quite a number of years ;-).

Had a feeling that's what they would do. I'll wait about a day before adding any more thoughts.
>Had a feeling that's what they would do.
Me too; sort of. I didn't see the EXACT end coming, and I'm curious for next season, since I think we all know what the mystery's gonna be.
And an aside: Is it just me, or has Rory been getting progressively bad-*** as the show carries on?

Spoilers!
I knew the Doctor wasn't going to die but the thing that interested me was how he was going to get out of it. They threw a lot of red herrings and I grabbed every one of them.
The duster coat swap, the gangers etc. I had totally forgotten the shape shifting android ship and that's the beauty of it all.
Really enjoyed it, all the magic was there and the Brigadier thing made me sad as I assume Nick Cortney died waiting for the call as well.

Ever since Smith/Moffat took over i've been liking the show less and less -- mostly because of River and his never ending complicated story arcs.
I hope the next season starts getting some of the magic back for me
As far as the season finale last night, it was like meh (just glad they finally wrapped up the whole River thing - I hope)

Even Steven Moffat said last nights episode was " the maddest ever ".
How are the young children supposed to follow what is going on in this show anymore?
Or is it the adults who are confused and we need the kids to explain it to us. :smiley1:
Mikey
Oct 2, '11, 11:42 AM
I don't think young children are following storylines
They're more interested in short "cool" scenes like the skulls attacking the guy etc.
They couldn't care less who River is much less the Doctor himself.

I thought it was really good last nite, the best story from this series,i am not really a fan of River,i wished it was her who got shot instead of Robo Doc :smiley1:I think the Dr does need some new companions,James Corden was good in the Closing Time episode,so he would get my vote or even just Rory.

SPOILERS.
I'm just wondering about the logic of it all.
So the Doctor has to die, because he's...disturbing the natural flow of time? meddling too much?
His death is a "fixed point in time". Whatever that means.
Who wants/needs him dead, I ask?
Let's assume he does have to die.
They kill him, but he's a robot. (can I just add one "yawn" here)
So he's officially dead, and the Universe can resuming going about its business.
So I guess now he totally has to stay off the radar to convince everyone he's dead.
So he'd best regenerate, 'cause they know what he looks like.
He'd also best fix the chameleon circuit, because a blue phone box gives it all away.
And he'd better not save anyone anymore in a conspicuous way, because, again, he needs to keep a low profile.
So he needs to disappear for real.
I find the Deus ex Machina ending (woohoo, it was a robot), a very cheap device to get out of a tough spot. And why did the Doctor and River have to get married? Was this in any way needed?
I know I'll probably get the label "hater", so I'm taking a break and I'm not even going to watch the next season! Somebody let me know when Moffat gets a story editor that points out when his stories just make no sense.

I think the marriage was to help get normal time flowing again with their kiss. Here's what I want to know. Are they really married since she married the robot?

I can accept a time traveling machine, I can accept regeneration, but restoring the flow of time by kissing?
Next time my computer acts up, I know what to do...:hugs::rose::prv:
The show is being drawn farther and farther away from sci fi and more towards fantasy and romance to get the teen girls watching.
It's a good idea in the short-term but I think they're starting to alienate their core audience

He was inside controling the robot so I'd say they're hitched.

I agree a bit with that. It seems they are trying to win over the Twilight crowd but they are ****ing off the old school Whovians. Some of these shows have very weak premises.

Ditching the elaborate season long story arcs is definitely going to be a good idea.
More self contained stories for each adventure will be welcome, along with (hopefully) the reappearance of some more classic DW enemies.

I would agree. Part of the problem for me is that I've been a patron of the nerdly arts for a LONG time, and I've seen a lot of stuff.... so the "surprise" twists don't do it for me, as I've seen that sort of thing before. A lot.

Agreed. There's a difference between a story arc and dropping a few hints for a Seasons Finale ( Bad Wolf, You are not alone, missing bees & Doctor Donna ) but these were just hints not really part of the story along the way.

So;
Here ya go. It explains a lot, and it's pretty darned clever:
The (Chronological) Life of River Song - Topless Robot (http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/10/the_chronological_life_of_river_song.php)
....and in case that damned "twitvid" thingie doesn't work for you (like it doesn't for me) you can watch on youtube. Like a normal person:

'Course, if you haven't been watching this season it won't make a lot of sense 'cos it's clips from the show, shown in the right order.... er.... backwards....
