Low orders through Diamond? One possible reason...

My best friend owns the local comic book store. When I asked him if he got any copies of the new Mego book last week, he said he hadn't ordered it. Why?

He got stuck with a half dozen or so copies of that lame Mego article compilation that Tomart released earlier this year, and was gun shy about ordering any other Mego books. I didn't even buy that one... wasn't it basically a bunch of cut out articles from their back issue stock, all shrinkwrapped together and sold for $25? Or was it a bound reprint?

I was shocked at first, but then he did make sense, at least from a standpoint of someone who isn't knowledgeable about every single item of the thousands listed in Previews... the monthly process of ordering from Previews is completely overwhelming and the stuff that falls outside the purview of the typical comic shop tends to get lost completely.

What sucks is that a crappy book from another company can end up hurting the sales of a quality one.

It does suck man,I asked my comic store guy too,and he said people just don't buy collectible books like they use to,he says he hardly sells comics price guides so why bother with toys,I told him just to check it out that I'm sure if he see's it he'll change his mind

I'm gonna try and order mine through my local comic shop(not a lot of them in London now), I've been going there for 20 years and know the owner very well. He usually manages to get stuff for me on special orders...even if its stuff he would not consider stocking.

It isn't a book,it was a bait and switch, it clogs several retailers here as well.

And the said part is, it isn't even very well-researched, if it's just the Mego articles from Tomart's. I have many Tomart's issues over the years, and my one fault with them is lack of good research, and spreading misinformation because of it.
