    HUGO!!!! Man of 1000 Faces!!!

So who else had one?? I remember scaring other cars with it on the way to Florida for vacation every summer. My mom still has the little creep at her house, but the glue stuff is shot, any replacement for it?

I had one for years --- 10th birthday present from my aunt... I remember wearing the sideburns and goat around the house and it drove my dad nuts...
Don't be sorry. How would you know? You've been watching MTV all your life.

I'm surprised no one has tried to revive the concept, what an icon of the 70's this guy was. I never had one but I knew kids who did and the puppet alone is worth it just for the creep factor.

I keep meaning to grab one...several have passed me by at a very cheap price. Toys...$15 total for your wrestling case, and also, hats off on the Dolls reference...VERY underrated Brit film with an EXCELLENT 'moral'.

I have one. Totally cool toy. I'm missing a couple accessories for mine though.

One of the few non-Mego toys I HAD to buy on eBay. I still have it hidden ina box somewhere waiting for the right time to spring it on my wife.

I am sure I told the story in greater detail back on the old forum (remember the old forum?), but essentially Hugo met his demise acting as a lampshade. I left him on a lamp with a bare bulb one evening. I got called down to dinner, which was rudely interupted by the smell of hideously burning plastic flesh. Needless to say, it was not a toy replaced by my parents, and I had plenty of time to enjoy the long lingering smell during an extended grounding. I don't think I slept well for a week.

LOL...Great story, Paul! Well...Not for you or especially Hugo, though.

I had a Hugo...My mom absolutely hated him (I had begged and begged to get him). My dad used to freak her out with him...He would leave Hugo in a closet or some other place my mom might go to and she'd shriek when she saw him. My dad liked scaring her and us kids...Years of therapy have helped me get over it...LOL!

Here's a little piece of trivia about Hugo I bet even no one on this board new: Hugo was designed by a gentleman named Alan Ormsby. This is the same Alan Ormsby who starred in Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, and wrote Death Dream, Deranged, and My Bodyguard. Alan also did makeup for a lot films including Shock Waves and even wrote a kid's book on how to do your own monster makeup. The only difference between the Hugo concept he designed and the finished product was that the original used spirit gum just like prodfessional make up men. Apparently the toy company was afraid of liability issues so they devised a glue stick to use instead.

Oh man I'm a bit of fan of Alan Ormsby but I never knew that! When my wife was having contractions a few years back I was put in a waiting room and the only thing to read was his kids book on makeup. I found it weird that it was there and kind of wanted to steal it.

I remember staring at this guy in the Sears Wishbook every year for a decade. There was something about him that just kept me from asking for him. Too creepy for me. I was a big weiney as a child.

Love Mr. Hugo. Never had one as a kid, but hope to add him to my collection one day.
