Were AJ's ever released boxed w/ outfits?

I've long wondered about this - sometimes, on eBay, you'll find boxed AJ's dressed in (for example) a karate outfit or an army outfit instead of the usual jumpsuit. Were they ever actually sold like this?

    Thanks!
    Joe

The AJ I have is a T1 in an army uniform in the regular T1 box. Is this possible?

I don't know, Joe. I never saw Type 2 AJs in any stores, so I don't know when they were released. I got mine at toy shows in the '90s.

One thing you can do is check the boots for pinholes. If the figure originally left the factory in that outfit, it won't have holes in the boots from being sewn onto the card.

          I'm glad this was clarified.

I have another question, I have a gray haired AJ that im mib. I have never seen another on ebay and I'm sure I saw an artwork pic of him on some packaging either in person or in the gallery. Did they make one with gray hair or could this be plastic going weird?

            I have a grey-haired AJ that I painted myself.

Can you post a picture? I've never seen an AJ with grey factory paint.

Weird. It looks like some kind of fungus is attacking his head. Maybe someone mixed cheese in the paint that day.

It does look cool. It almost looks flocked, ala G.I Joe.
