Oh yeah...I remember you...didn't you sell most of your awesome Mego collection?
Those Flatts are awesome...but it's going to be awfully hard selling them as a one time bundle...the economy is bad...and many people are struggling financially.
Individually would be your best option.

That's about $350 per figure (estimate).
That was a very solid offer from you.
It's going to be tough selling the entire bundle here (perhaps eBay?)...not many of us have that kinda cash.

.................
Selling them as a lot probably isn't the best move in this economy. If you want top dollar I think it's best to sell them separately. I bet there's enough interest for all those customs.
But bear in mind that Flatts aren't as popular anymore as they used to be and people aren't inclined to spend that much money anymore. Not when you can get a custom that looks just as good (or even better) for less money from another customizer.

well my buddy started collecting customs, so the idea was i keep 2 and he keeps 2 and we try and get our money back on the rest. unfortunitly, by what i figured it would be very hard to recoup the funds. why would anyone buy one of the flatt batmen when they can get a kick *** better one from BK for half the price, or the same with a black panther, t3t makes a killer one. my advice to Ahmed is sell now before the flatts become completely worthless in 5 to 10 years.

If you are looking for $500-600 per figure (or even more), then you will probably be handing the set down to your kids. Flatts do not command those prices anymore.
Good luck with the sale however! I really do hope you find someone willing to pay your asking price.
I would like to see the Batman that BK makes that is KICK *** better than Chalee's...Where is it...??? Show me...???

Ahmed i think your missing the point the last flatt batman on ebay went for about $180.00 i know because i bought it for my buddy franks toy store. almost everyone who collected flatts has gotten out. the two heavy hitters have everything already and i'll only post initials, JK and WO. i suggest you sell the lot on ebay and see for yourself, those flatt batmen actually scare me cause youd be hard pressed to get 300.00 each.

This is unfortunately what happens when you've got a bunch of stuff that you paid above top dollar on and then leave for 5-10 years. You wake up and are unaccepting of what your stuff is now worth. The days of $1000 Flatts are over. Sorry if that doesn't sit well but thats the facts. It happens with niche items that become a shortlived huge rage. Watch in the future when someone attempts to sell a stretch Batman that they paid 15 grand for and you'll witness something quite similar.

My friend, I know you believe strongly that Flatt's work is the best. And you have the right to the opinion.
But the one thing you cannot argue is that the value of Flatt's have gone down. They just don't command the prices that you paid for them.
I would strongly encourage you to test eBay and see what happens there. There are many more collectors of custom figures out "there" who are not members here.
In the end, I think you will come back here and either A. accept the very generous offer of Greg and his buddy or B. part out the collection individually.
I AGREE Chris the Man...!!! I even tried to buy figures from him...He is INCREDIBLE...!!! But I don't know what happened...he never could make time for me...I have been waiting for over a YEAR for my order and that kinda reminded me of the **** Charlee used to put us through and honestly thats why I am done...!!! I found a customizer that I love again like Charlee and I can't get him to make me a custom...I'm done wishing...!!!
Greg,
Come on...all BS aside and everything...It's me your talking to...Frank, you too...both of you know exactely what a Flatt is and both of you know the differences between a Flatt and these other customs...and NO its not just the INFLATED $100 hundreds... :) lol haha...!!! Come on guys we have been friends for a long time...I know you two guys well...!!!
And for all you other folks who love to chime in with your 2 cents about how much I paid for my Flatt-(How do you have any idea what I payed for my Flatts?)...For your information...I didn't overpay for any of my Flatts as a matter of fact most of them only cost me between $300-$400 with a few exceptions of course and those inflated FLATT prices you all talk about so loosely like you have a clue...Those INFLATED FLATT PRICES were created by RON, Myself and Frank and Greg and that Psycho Scott D.-(God Love em)...We all whether we all knew it at the time or not were the DIRECT cause of the PRICES going through the roof...Our interest in acquiring them was voracious and infectious and we fed off each other and we all had CASH to spend...which, when you figure there weren't many Flatts in existance, could and DID make a volatile PRICE HIKE which was bound to fall sooner or later...We loved it because we were making a fortune hand over fist with the turnarounds...I for one actually didn't pay a dime for any of my Flatts when I figure how much profit I made on the ones I sold off...!!! So please don't talk to me about accepting the fact that FLATT inflated prices are a thing of the past...Duh, I already know...!!! :)
Keep in mind fellas...when I say a Flatt I don't mean Charlee's crappy early work with the constipated faces...He like many of you got better with time and experience...!!! I am refering to his masterpieces...Those who understand know what I mean...!!!

Wow...what a back-handed compliment...
Pretty good? Dude, take off the Flatt "beer googles" and come to the realization that the hot chick you scored with last night is neither hot nor a chick :smiley1:
There are about 5-6 customizers right off the top of my head on these very boards, in fact in this very thread, that are much better than Flatt ever was.
And the thing is Charlee got out...he's not in the game anymore...could he have improved and still been the king? We will never know because he stopped.
Meanwhile the customizers I already referred to are still in it and have taken things to levels Charlee never dreamed of. To say that if they keep up the great work and one day they can be as good as Charlee is INSULTING.
In fact, they are BETTER than Flatt and to acquire their work is no where near as expensive as Charlee's work was. $1000 for one of those figures is ABSURD. I'm sorry if that's what you paid "back in the day" but seriously dude, you got majorly ripped off. The fact aside that they aren't holding their value....even back in the day those prices were ridiculous.
But of course, I'm sure you realize that now...And debating the subject of Flatt's work versus others is just a smokescreen for you to justify your hope in recouping your losses.

Jul 6, '11, 5:34 PM
The reason we know what you paid for your Flatts is due to the offer you turned down. It's simple logic.
You turn down a $6000 offer. Why? Because you paid more than that for your figures.
It's simple economics my friend. I neither have to know you or how much you paid to figure it out.

So if Greg is offering you between 3 and 400 each which is what you claim you paid, why aren't you taking it? You say you know the days of inflated prices are gone. You even admit it was created by yourself, 2 guys who have expressed no willingness to pay premiums for these figures anymore, and 1 guy who is in prison. Who exactly does that leave as your target customer, particularly in a bad economy? Maybe you're trying to stir up some new hype and suck in a new member to the disciples of Charlee? The time has passed, pal. I think you'd better crawl back into the carbonite chamber and sleep on it for another few years.

I’m not so sure that Ebay is the place to determine fair market value these days. It isn’t what it used to be, and sadly that is not entirely due to the declining economy.
Just curious…if a seller requests private offers and a potential buyer makes an offer which is graciously declined, is it to that buyer’s advantage to publicly disclose that offer in an attempt to berate the seller into accepting it? I’ve yet to see that play out well for any buyer…perhaps I’ve missed out on all the success stories?
On the other side of the coin, isn’t it best not to denigrate any artist’s work...even if light-heartedly? While art is entirely subjective to the perceiver, it is really quite personal to the creator.
Concerning the idea that current & future advancements negate prior achievements: isn’t Mego collecting proof positive of the absolute opposite?
Course, what do I know…I’m just a moron!

Hi, MadMozz here been a long time since Iv posted or even cared to look on these boards ( yes I know Megos & yes if Mego made it I had it several times over, boxed carded & loose) Anyway Greg sent me the link & I just could not help myself.
I want to point out that looking at some of the more recent customs I like a lot of the work being done it has come a long way since the Flatt hey days of 1998/2000 & damn a lot of the current work looks amazing! I think its fair to say from looking at the Batman figures they have some very Flatt like features & I assume like any good artist Charlees body of work had some influence on the new customs figures, I am not taking sides in this Flatt vs other custom figures as there is no real way to say which figure is better ( some people like the new Star Wars movies some like the original ...who's right?) I do want to note that I understand what Ahmed is saying in terms of a certain look that Flatts had when Charlee was at the top of his game no matter what they are worth today the figures still look great & 10/12 years later the quality of workmanship & Flatt style still holds up in my opinion.(
I have a toystore & people are still blown away by the Joker I have) I talked to Greg about his offer to Ahmed & I know it was sincere & more then fair based on what Flatts bring today however from what I can tell from the posts it seems like Ahmed really does not want to part with the figures it was more of a go fish type of situation which I think most of us can understand " hey if I get crazy money great, if not I keep my Flatts & go to work on Monday & no big deal I love em so its all cool. That's just my take on the current situation & I don't think either Greg or Ahmed is wrong. I would like to point out that its a damn shame that Charlee had so much talent but was such a messed up dude, at one point he really was the king of customs & the sky was the limit, I mean just think about this he was turning down $1500 a figure at one point its just insane what happens to people, I know for a fact he got $900 a Joker & did 12/15 of them & still said it was not enough money for the work he had to do! I waited 4 months for a Daredevil figure & had to beg & pray for & hope he didn't take my $600 & run after that I was done , I sold all 37 figures at the high point of Flatt mania made a lot of $$$ & finished college. I wonder what Mr. Flatt is doing now? I would be willing to pay $100 a figure COD ...... of course.
HAVE A GREAT MEGO DAY
MADMOZZ :)
IMO Charlee seemed to have a better eye for scale, proportion and detail than most. To me, that's "his look" and it sets his customs apart. His headsculpts did lag behind his other skills, but then again most customizers today (including yours truly) rarely sculpt their heads from scratch, so he tends to be graded on a curve by admirers (or harshly by critics).
The Flatt GL I have is the prize of my collection. I also know that I have a later head sculpt that was better than his earlier attempt. I hope to own more Flatt figures someday. I won't be paying more than $300-400 for them though. Hopefully a lot less.

Can we actually see pics of these Flatt figures in question? I'm guessing most of what we saw in Magazines back in the day were his "early" work? I'm curious about comparisons to his later work.
I think it's been a lively debate so far, and I'm finding it a fascinating look at a perceived life cycle of custom collectibles. Particularly as our demographic has aged out of the "sweet spot" and given way to 80's collectors.

Unless there will ultimately be a nostalgic phase of Flatt customs, I think it is safe to say that the envelope has been pushed beyond that with customs particularly with the 12" figures you see coming from overseas in the grey market in particular in the wake of Hot toys incredibly high end figures. For $200 - $500 range you end up taking home a ridiculously realistic figure that is say, practically a miniturized Christain Bale Batman or Heath Ledger Joker in the flesh. Which has details down to the pores of the skin... And pretty much any major character or actor is available in this format.
We're starting to trend this way with the Buck Rogers figures, and customs aren't that far behind in the 8" format.

Word. I'm keeping the "makin' 'em backwards" retro custom alive. So contrarian. Then again I only ever sold (1) Kingpin beyond the ToyFare contract. My heart wasn't in carving teak longbows like Charlee did.

I always did like your Shazam and those gauntlets you made for him.
no ron, but maddmoz asked me to post this for him, as he has no interest in re-establishing an account.
I would be willing to pay $100 a figure COD ...... of course.
HAVE A GREAT MEGO DAY
MADMOZZ :)
Frank, is a class act and as far as I am concered he is just like me when it comes to collecting...He is partially correct with regard to my sale...I won't sell if the price is not right but rest assured I am VERY burnt out on this whole deal with collecting customs...I discovered Chris M. and I was OVERLY excited to start getting figures from him...I spoke to him at length and actually ordered Green Goblin & Dr. Doom and I was supposed to get them in a few months...well the few months turned into a YEAR...he contacted me and appologized and said he would make time to get me a Goblin at least asap...that was 2-3 months ago and still NOTHING...I got my hopes up for nothing and it all started to remind me of the **** Charlee always put me through...I'm just fed up with talented people not being able to make time to be productive...Mozz is 100% correct...a smart diligent artist would make the most of his popularity and WRITE HIS OWN TICKET...!!! I'm seriously done and I will seriously sell for the right price...!!! And don't believe for one minute that these Flatts are or will be Worthless...thats rediculous and untrue...and also don't think Charlee isn't still making them...he is still making them...he just doesn't tell us and he keeps his customers quite as well...!!! Once he burns a bridge so to say he kinda doesn't want to talk to you ever again...Still owes me a $600 3D-Man I paid for Years Ago...!!!

As a new member here, I've only heard the name Flatt in passing. I had no idea of all the controversy they would stir up. I almost made you an offer on the Daredevil figure when I first saw this post, not because it was a Flatt, just because I've always wanted a custom Daredevil. I'm glad I waited because now that I've read this entire thread, my offer would have been incredibly embarrassing. :sarky:

Ahmed, you asked earlier in the thread if anyone had any of Cap Mego's figures...I have his Green Goblin and I love it.
He was building this on a mego body (slimmer) and I asked him to use his "hero" body - which he obliged. So as far as

Personally, I couldn't care less about Flatt customs; I'm just digging the fact that I got to read fresh posts from two of the early Mego gods. Ahmed and MadMozz were cornerstones of one of the earlier Mego Boards that I joined years ago. Ahmed's collection was museum worthy and MadMozz was always ready to throw-down some serious cash when it came to the ultra rare pieces that popped up back in the day; plus he was ready to defend his purchases tooth and nail to anyone that questioned them. :yeah:
Not to mention a cameo appearance from the Black Joker himself (Lou M.).

Ahmeds collection speaks for itself (which if I am correct I think the Hamburger man still holds the record for getting 12k for his set of Alter Egos) Both of these guys were passionate about there Mego collections & I can't speak for Ahmed but I know Frank still loves toys & if you ever get a chance to drop by his store (ITSATOYSTORE) I think it shows as the place is just so flippin cool!

Wow..how did i miss this thread! As an avid custom collector i can say that Charlee was the best customizer for his time, he was ahead of his time, his eye for detail and the finer details that were not normally a concern for customizers was amazing ( he must be OCD for sure..LOL) but that was over 10 yrs ago. Many customizers of today have surpassed his scultping, body formation, his sewing, but his details can still hold up today . As a matter of fact..his customs still hold up today against the current crop of customizers..the proof is this thread alone and others like it...Everyone compares customs to Charlee's thats the proof right there..the man was ahead of his time.. Had minor dealing's with Charlee himself..most of my figues were purchased through middle men, but i have no negative comments towards the man..just respect

I thought when you pulled your auction, you sold them off of Ebay . Nice Strategic Move to try and create some Allure and Mystique. :sarky:

Could not agree more. It was this kind of game playing that drove the price up back in the day. I love the detail of a good Flatt, but all the behind the scene non sense, like Ahmed's, is a load of crap.

Jim, those were mass produced by Flattworld before it went out of business.
The ones that Ahmed are selling are much more limited, were made by Charlee Flatt himself and cost a whole lot more when they were made. However, the demand for them today is, well, flat...especially at the price Ahmed wants for his figures.

Ahhh, spoken like a true "Toy Broker". Actually, I dont think anyone here hates "Flatts", just the bullcrap that follows them, like your attitude for one.
Sadly, when you attach your self to Flatt, you give an incredible artist a bad name.

Worst thread ever!:please_y:
Pretty funny/sad thread. I'm a serious Flatt collector myself, with 25+ in the collection. I'm well aware that most are not worth what I paid for them anymore, but I'm not looking to sell them and I'd still pay above market value for ones I want.
That said, there are so few in the market (or people are looking for too much $$$ for them - cough, cough) that I no longer look aggressively. I just noticed this thread today, after all!
I'm a prime target for Flatt sellers, but there are only 3 here that I don't have or want (I have two Batmen already and zero interest in the other variations, nice as they are). I'd never pay for all of them to get three, then lose money unloading the rest. That's the reality of the marketplace for this type of deal. Can't blame him for going fishing, but some of the comments were really condescending.
