View Full Version : Here's a question for previous Meeters

I am planning on riding my Harley to the meet. I started thinking about it and I am a little worried about leaving it parked outside the motel for several days. I am actually buying a new one this week so I will be extra fanatical about it. I would prefer it didn't get rained on and I am also concerned about possible vandalism. Does anyone know if the motel has any indoor parking I could use or if there are any rental garages in the area. I don't mind even paying for a month's use if it's not too expensive. Maybe the museum might even have a garage I could give them some extra money to use for the weekend. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I may have solved my problem. There is a Harley dealer in Wheeling. I think I am going to schedule an oil change with them and drop the bike off there. They can keep it until I pick it up on Saturday.
Its still a bit off in meteorlogical terms, but the extended forecast does call for isolated thunder storms. Of course that means we may see nothing.

I would also be worried about the ride itself. I live in NJ and have yet to make it there without it pouring a few times.

Yeah, I will probably get caught in a few storms. I will bring rain gear and pull over when they hit. I don't mind those as much as a fear of steady pouring rain for hours and hours.

It's been rainy here the last few days, but only at night.
Wheeling is very rural, not a LOT of crime (but it does happen...there was a pretty high profile murder about two miles from the museum a few weeks ago).
I'd be more worried about rain than vandalism, though.

I made an appointment at the Wheeling Harley dealer to get the oil changed and I can just keep it there till I'm ready to leave on Saturday. So, that works perfect for me. Does anyone know if the dealer is close to the Motel? I guess I'll have to hitch a ride from the motel to the Museum.

You can get in with me, the family truckster seats seven.
Nutty thought
If anyone going has a pick-up with a cap maybe they can keep it in there at night.
Only thing, you'll probably need at least 6 guys to lift it in and out.

If I remember right wasn't there a couple of motorcycles in the parking lot last year? Seems I remember seeing them leave on Sunday with the rest of us.

Luckily we won't have to resort to that. The Harley dealer had no problem keeping it till Saturday. AND, this sucker weighs 900 pounds. No way we are lifting it!

Thats an awesome Bike, I have a Dyna Low rider and my boss has a Electraglide that he just put up for sale today. I like the blue color very similar to my bike, I also have an 04 Buell 1200 that flies. My wife is scared of riding so we will be in the Hummer, its only a 2.5 hr drive from home, I would love to ride there man, good luck and see you there.

Yeah, I haven't got the wife on the bike yet, either. Her step-sister is pressuring her into riding so we can ride together. We'll see.
