Today me, my Bro (Wannabemego), and Derek (Flynne) spotted Benjamin's book in 3 stores in Manhattan/NYC. First spotting was at Forbidden Planet, they had 5 copies, and all 3 of us perused it at the instant we saw it on the shelf. Derek has taken a pic of the book and will probably post them when he gets back from his trip to the Big Apple. You'll be blown away by this book...especially the section on a certain Web Hand figure :grin:

Second spotting was at St. Marks Comics. Whilst there I also picked up a CHERRY!!! Silver Soldier Ape complete with gloves for $75. Pics of that figure to come later on tonight or tomorrow morning.

Third Spotting was at Hanley's Universe near the Empire State Building. Only one copy left.

The odd store out was Midtown Comics. Seems like they didn't order the book...or if they did, they probably missed the deadline by Diamond Comics. I asked 2 of the workers at Midtown if they had it and both said that it didn't come in this week...which is odd for one of the most well known comic stores in Manhattan. So, it's getting into the comic stores...so hopefully next it will get into my mailbox via Amazon. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up here in the tri-state area.

Arrrrrgh! I hate Amazon and all of my local comic vendors right now. Only one store got it in and it was presold.

Tomorrow I'm hitting the road and finding it, this i swear.......

I'm about the give up on Amazon--there's no indication of when the book might ship and the sale page says don't expect it until after Dec 24th!

It will probably be the middle of January before it appears in Europe.

I hope to have concrete details tomorrow, but don't give up on Amazon just yet. I'll post an update tomorrow, so hang in there.

hmm... that's weird. mine says
Delivery estimate: December 1, 2007 - December 15, 2007
Shipping estimate: November 26, 2007 - December 7, 2007

and we're both in the bay area! i'm not sure how they determine this?

Thanks Benjamin, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate that. Amazon is really killing me with the wait right now, especially when I'm hearing about the book popping up in stores everywhere. :smiley1:

Tell me about it. I had never ordered from Amazon before, but took a chance on them because of Ben's book. Last time I did that tho :7:

The prodigal Mego head returns home from New York, refreshed and recharged, but more importantly with the pictures he took in the process! :) I would have posted these before now, but I promised my wife (and myself) no work over the holiday - so no laptop, and no use of the Hotel terminals. 5 days without a computer - it's absolute bliss!

Anyway, the wife and I were in for the weekend due to her choir's performance at Carnegie Hall (which was mindnumbingly beautiful, by the way), so while she was in rehershal on Friday Berto and Tom were kind enough to come in and show me all around Manhattan. To say that they were kind is too small a compliment - these guys are like the brothers I've never had, and I had an absolute blast.

From the start, these guys know how to spoil a guy. Berto, having remembered a conversation at MegoMeet about my love of Walt Simonson's work, and my sentimental fondness of the "Thor: Frog of Thunder" story arc, showed up with a promotional poster for the story arc signed personally to me by Walt himself. I was practically moved to tears, but manfully I withheld them. The poster is currently being fitted for a frame to hang in my Mancave. Berto - you are the best!

After some serious gush time, we started on our journey to hit every toy and comic shop on the island. First on the list - let's find Ben's book!:

First spotting was at Forbidden Planet, they had 5 copies, and all 3 of us perused it at the instant we saw it on the shelf. Derek has taken a pic of the book and will probably post them when he gets back from his trip to the Big Apple. And here's the pic at Forbidden Planet of Berto and Tom holding a few of the copies:

Second spotting was at St. Marks Comics.

And here's a pic of me holding one of two copies they had:

Third Spotting was at Hanley's Universe near the Empire State Building. Only one copy left.
UPDATE: I walked back to Hanley's from the Hotel to pic up a copy of the new "Angel: After the Fall" mini-series, and I just couldn't stand the wait any longer. So, even though I have multiple copies coming (someday) from Amazon, if you hit Hanley's Universe at 33rd and 5th you will not find one copy left on the shelf - I bought it on Friday to read on the plane trip back to Kansas. :) Here's a shot of the hole the purchase left:

However I did recheck Midtown Comics on Friday (it was on the way back to the hotel and I had half an hour to kill), and it turns out the did order the book, and had already sold two of the three copies it had ordered. They were hard to see because they were shelved on a high, short shelf so that the book was spine up and facing in. I only found it by accident, and the fact that they've already sold two means that people were looking for it.

So, all in all, I had the most fun, most relaxing vacation I have ever had, and I owe that in large part to the overwhelming kindness of Berto and Tom, who shared their time, expertise, and their company for a day beyond compare. I intend to return the favor... just as soon as I figure out how :)

Excellent report, thanks.

I'd suggest to anyone who sees the book on a store shelf Spine side in to
turn it Cover side forward on the shelf so it catches every eye that walks by,
much like Charlie did in his store.
