I love the 30s and 40s logo...I dig that really old school stuff.
My dream is for someday to actually see the original Action Comics #1 Supes on the big screen...not quite being able to fly, or even remotely have the speed of light...more like leaping tall buildings on a single bound...and be faster than a speeding locomotive...that way...he doesn't completely overpower gangsters so easily...that movie would absolutely rule...

Just wanted to add that I think Jim Lee is becoming a hack when it comes to costume design...Say what you want about some of George Perez' designs but he still has the chops moreso than Lee IMO...

Sincerly wasn't meant as bait Dane...I'm not a Jim Lee hater by no means...I just really think that having him be the "go-to" guy for costume redesigns lately isn't paying off for me personally. It looks like he's phoning it in and in most cases there is nothing wrong with these costumes to begin with...

Somewhere along the line in the last few years, Lee has lost his mojo. It's evident. With him not doing this on a daily basis and concentrating on the online game, he's really out of touch in soime respects. It would have been more of a challenge to draw the JLA in their traditional costumes and keep them fresh and relevant, so he took an easy road by creating his own versions which cannot be compared to any prior concepts. He seriously took a shortcut here that was not necessary.
Keep in mind this is coming from a Jim Lee fan. He's just lost it and may never get it back. I think maybe Frank Miller infected him with a has-been virus.

The costumes aren't the reason comic books aren't selling. And changing them won't help.
Does anyone believe that a person who has never read a comic book in their life really cares about costume changes and tweaks to the origin of 50 characters, most of which they have never heard of?
I don't smoke cigarettes. Not interested, never have been. But changing the color or designs on the packs or even tweaking the flavor isn't going to make me start buying the product because I don't smoke and I'm not going to start.
Did Wonder Woman's sales shoot through the roof with Lee's redesigned costume?
90 percent or more of what the general public knows about the few DC characters that have risen to its collective attention is the costumes, maybe more.
Nothing absolutely nothing was wrong with Superman or Wonder Woman's costumes. The battle with Batman was lost with the 1989 movie, but all versions at least retained the cape and cowl.
I wonder how much these changes, particularly in Superman, have to do with the copyright lawsuit with the Siegle and Shuster families. Heck if DC is going to crap on the character, I hope the families take their portion of the character to a competitor and do Superman right.
Making this announcement one issue into Flashpoint really doesn't do much for the mini series or its spawn. Doesn't the announcement just say, hey kids take the next three month off from buying our comics and we'll see you back when school starts.

I find it strange that a 5-issue event like Flashpoint is going to serve as the starting point for a new DCU...especially when they've had previous attempts like Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis recently which failed to do just that..

Scott,
I thought of that. Makes me ill. From what i read, Snyder indicated they would likely use motion capture and CGI for the costume like Green Lantern. Johns and Lee are having a press conference June 11 at a film festival in LA prior to a showing of Superman and Superman II. They could be revealing the costume.

^^^Ugh.
I can't see, under any possible circumstance, how a cgi suit is necessary or how it won't completely suck. Martha Kent sewed the suit for her son, she didn't create it with Photoshop. Maybe they can motion capture a spit curl too...

I thought Jim Lee's DC Universe online Wonder Woman costume was terrific, and I'm really not sure why they wouldn't go with something like this.

That's how Wonder Woman is supposed to look...like some exotic Mediterranean tough-looking Amazonian beauty...not like the last skinny wannabe plastic shopping mall Barbie doll in that failed Wonder Woman pilot.
>Does anyone believe that a person who has never read a comic book in their life really cares about costume changes and tweaks to the origin of 50 characters, most of which they have never heard of?
True; and this kind of thinking is demonstrative of the problem the Big Two and a Half have had for a while: costume tweaks appeal/don't to the hardcore fan. The casual reader wouldn't care, and probably wouldn't notice. There's an obsessiveness with the minutia that really doesn't matter; from the companies and, sadly the fans as well.
>Nothing absolutely nothing was wrong with Superman or Wonder Woman's costumes.
True; and as you pointed out, recogniton is a big deal.... but if you want to shake things up a new outfit is the way to go. It creates a visual cue as to when the "new era" started. 'Course, then yoiu've got to come across with the goods.... or maybe start ANOTHER "new era" next year....
>Making this announcement one issue into Flashpoint really doesn't do much for the mini series or its spawn.
Yeah, but a longtime reader probably realizes this is just another go-around on the reboot trail. An attempt to "new" up things. Which isn't to say it'll neccessarily be a bad story. I think the hype is more the problem than the actual reboots: by playing them up for months, releasing little bits, press releases and talking points.... they set the audience up for WAY mopre than they can deliver, especially on a perpetual book. "IS Batman dead?!?!? Has Superman REALLY relenquished the cape?!?! Is Aquaman REALLY an evil zombie?!?!?"
No. We all know that. None of this is new; they used to do stories like this at least twice a year back in the "good ol' days;" they just didn't hype them up so much. (HOW MANY "Superman is DEAD! NOT a dream! NOT an alternate universe!!!" covers did DC do back in the 50's and 60's?) They were allowed to happen, and the reader could make up their own mind.
>I thought Jim Lee's DC Universe online Wonder Woman costume was terrific, and I'm really not sure why they wouldn't go with something like this
I suspect it's 'cos that's basically the 50's costume; and the whole point of doing an outfit change is so you can tout the "newness" of the character. "What is this? Looks like my Gran'ma's bathing suit! Feh; we want HIP, NEW.... what're the kids into these days? Give her them baggy pants that are always fallin' down.... and a toque...."
....never mind that she comes from a culture that's been in stasis for the last 2500 years....

Well aside from the costume changes, are we sure the symbol is really different? Lee has always kind of drawn it with sharper angles.

Then maybe DC needs to use what he's developed for their gaming platform and move it in to the comics instead of the other designs...

Aside from the Jacket, I like the new look Wonder Woman. Pants are not such a bad thing. Besides, they can always mix it up. Sometimes she can wear the short shorts, others pants. Everyone of course is going to love Wonder Woman's classic look. We grew up with it. It's whats familiar and comfortable. But I guess DC felt she wasn't selling comics and tried to mix things up.
I remember the Batman "new look". It was a joke. They got rid of the shorts over his pants and called it a new look. I remember an issue of Robin around that time where Batman wakes Tim up and Tim says something like, "oh man you scared me. That new costume is really intimidating". I said outloud "how is that scary? He got rid of the shorts??"
As for Superman's new look? Adding a collar and angling up the S doesn't bother me. I will of course prefer the old and familiar over anything they change.

I hate Batman, Superman & WonderWoman's new Costumes.
Something like Jordan's , no Green Underwear, ... was ok, and an Improvement So to Speak.... as well as Aquaman's new suit.
These Characters are not The X-men. You just can't pop them in new suits Every 43 years, and run with it.
So when everything gets re-vamped, is Superman gonna be Superboy ? Is this the Change that is Major ?
.... Are these costumes changing, like say Thor did, because it might look Better on Screen ? Batman's new Suit looks an Awful alot like The 89 Batman Film.

The characters are supposed to be younger and the new outfits are meant to reflect that. However, if that's the point then why you would get someone so steeped in the 90's to redesign your universe?

Cause he's Co-Publisher and they have to give him something to justify his salary other than the on-line game designs he does...He hasn't been on a regular comic book in years, since Superman with Brian Azzarello, no?
