Like the title says, which ones did?
I've heard some of them did, would it make a difference if I slapped some AJ heads and outfits on t2 bodies or should I have to use specific outfits to make the t2 AJ 'official'?

AJ outfits were designed for T1 bodies. They tend to be rather snug on T2 bodies. I think AJ predated the T2 body by a couple of years.

I have a pair of the UK AJs on Type 2 bodies. They are easy to spot because the heads are much darker, like a Trek head. I have only seen dark hair on T2s. If you've got a pale head, especially red or blonde, my guess is it's a T1.

Wow, I had no idea AJ's came on T2 bodies. I honestly thought they only came on T1's.

In the U.S., Action Jackson was only distributed on a Type 1 body. The Johnnie Jackson line in the UK also was released on Type 1 bodies. Because Action Jackson was discontinued prior to transition to the Type 2 bodies for Mego figures, I would be pretty shocked to see a boxed AJ Type 2 figure. Then again, we are talking Mego, so it is possible.
To answer your question, to be "legit", your AJs should be on Type 1 bodies.

This is completely incorrect.
AJ was released on T2 bodies. I have two boxed ones; one is wearing an Aussie Marine outfit and the other is wearing a karate outfit. He may have been released in other outfits. Neither of mine included accessories.

I'm pretty sure the type 2 AJ I have has a box variation as well, the tatoos not being mentioned or something. These definitely were released in the US, much of the Type One boxed AJ's sold today come from two big warehouse finds in Canada.
The only ones I have ever seen on a type 2 body are the dark haired, beared figures. The head is noticably different.

Were the T2 bodies olny released with outfits or does anyone know if AJ came on a T2 body wearing his blue jumpsuit?

You're correct about the box variation. They have the "MEGO" circle logo in place of the tattoo blurb.
I have a type 2 AJ head without a beard.

I once had a t2 bearded aj in the aussie marine outfit in the no tattoo variation box as described. I also had a t1 non bearded in a karate outfit in the same box. I know both were original and not swapped out. Also neither had the AJ sticker on the outfit or any accessories.

weird.
I think AJ has more variations than any other Mego, I collect AJ and every one of my AJ's has some thing strange about them, for example, my cowboy outfit (in packet) does not come with cowboy boots, and most of the outfits I have never came with an AJ emblem.

Fantastic ad, Brian. Do you know what year it's fro?
Just look at all those vehicles AJ had in Germany.
I never imagined those existed.
Is that a guitar and other extra accessories in the bottom left?

That is still surprising that he was sold in the US on a type 2 since he was dicontinued before the T2 bodies came out. Are you sure they werent replaced in the boxed ones you have? Going to have to work on this one obviously.
International doesnt shock me...awesome ad post by the way!

As stated already, the type 2 heads are darker than the type 1 heads. They also have type 2 neck plugs.
I've seen dozens of these type 2 AJs in case fresh boxes. You can tell by looking at the outfits that they've always been on these bodies.
Why would someone switch the bodies out, anyway? I suppose they could've wanted the Action Jackson bodies for something else, but most people prefer type 2 bodies. The type 2 bodies didn't affect the prices of the figures I saw, so that's not a good reason for switching them.

Man you guys need to relax and enjoy some turkey. He asked what would be an "official" AJ in a T2 body and clearly 99% of all US AJs were released on T1 bodies. As I originally said "Then again, we are talking Mego, so it is possible" and sure it is that they released some in the US. The math and years dont work out in the US, I havent seen one before, there isnt one on Ebay live or completed auctions or on the net on any of the AJ sites, but hey...I believe you guys. Good to know. I am human and was just trying to help.
Thanks for the info and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't see this as a heated discussion at all.
It's hard to say that clearly 99% of Aj's were released on type 2 because we're all influenced by the glut of the Canadian find. AJ was sold until '75, this catalog page from Germany is from that year. It's likely Mego produced additional dolls with this run and used them as a means to get rid of outfits.

We do have a shot on the Museum of a boxed one at the museum with a write up but I'll admit after I looked at it i thought "this should be bigger"

Not being as verse in AJ's, I appreciate the info. What I don't appreciate is that now I want to get some T2 AJ's in the box ;)
That's a cool add, BTW Brian. Is that attached to foreignmego.com ?

Does that one have the tattoo statement on the box? Looks like that might be there, which wouldnt shock me that they would use the same box on some of them.

It should be but it isn't yet, I need to re do that whole Germany page once and for all. This is one of things I need to tell Scott exists so he can add it to the CSS.

A lot of those vehicles are generic items produced by LJN, I recognize some of them from "Mr. Action" and Mexican G.I. Joe.
I finally got off my butt and took a large photo of type 2 AJ and his cardboard prison.
