Dropped by my local comic shop today to pick up the Guedes issues of Supergirl (Thanks to MegoSteve's recommendation) and GASPED loudly when I saw THE BOOK high and prominent on the New Arrival shelf.

I stood in the middle of the store with a huge grin on my face, giggling and gasping as I turned each page of this FANTASTIC book. We've know for a long time the gorgeous photography we were in store for but you're not prepared until you see first hand the detail, color and clarity of the images. This is like being shrunk down to one inch tall and walking across 100% mint condition Megos.
The organization of the book is so exciting (thanks no doubt to editor Rob Chatlin's help). He's presented chapters for each WGSH figure, but also includes sections discussing the notable developments of each year, and backs up everything he says with researched facts and surprising documentation. For the package geek this will be your Bible and will open up a Pandora's box as you understand how many different Batman packages there are and how much you now need each and every one of them. For the loose collector, this book will be to you what Grey's Anatomy is to a physician. Every subtle physical detail of each character in all it's variations is presented clearly and with authority.
The additional material--the behind the scenes Mego photographs and information: This above all is what I have wanted to see since I first talked with Neal Kublan 10 years ago. His corporate head shots (the beard!), the artists in their offices, archival photos from Mego's early days in Hong Kong...Plus all of the advertising, catalogs, the Heroes World stuff. There's a double page spread of a Hong Kong store window that just...OH MY GOD! It's so cool.
It's going to take a week to read it.
And yet---I didn't buy it. I may change my mind on this, but for now I know that it exists and that I have 3 copies coming from Amazon. I want the 3 copies in my comic shop to be discovered by some other lucky person who I know will gasp as well when a long forgotten Mego Riddler jumps off the cover of the book and smacks them between the eyes.
God bless you, Benjamin Holcomb. This is a miraculous book.
