I've seen this done in other boards I'm on. There's already an old thread about showing us your desktop wallpaper (http://megomuseum.com/community/showthread.php?t=45313&highlight=desktop)... but I wanna see the iconography and taskbars of your current screen!

Mind you, I just finished cleaning up my desktop after finishing up some projects and am gearing up some new ones. I still need to weed and sort what I have up there.

Here's a couple of past desktops I've used:

It's been a while since I played with the program, but are some of those from HeroMachine?

Not at all.
I am one of those artists that sees a cool pose and I'll draw it (but I won't trace it) I don't consider myself and artist. More of a human copying machine with my eyes and brain. The characters are mine...first I'll draw it in pencil then I will scan it into my computer and use Infranview program to turn the pencil lines to black lines.

Then I turn the picture into a BMP. and drag it into Photoshop to add color. I did that for each hero. Putting all of the heroes together was fun...the background is something I assembled from a picture and later pasted on my heroes.

I do covers for my own series of short stories featuring my own scifi super heroes. The covers are pretty much in the same fashion as what I just described.

Here are some covers of my characters from the CRUSADERS...

This image I took off Wikipedia. Many pics in their pages enlarge to really huge sizes when you click on them.

I also alternate with wallpapers you can get at the Hubble site. Some of these shots are so good you almost get a 3D efect. This looks like the ending of the Empire Strikes Back:

Not at all.
I am one of those artists that sees a cool pose and I'll draw it (but I won't trace it) I don't consider myself and artist. More of a human copying machine with my eyes and brain. The characters are mine... first I'll draw it in pencil then I will scan it into my computer and use Infranview program to turn the pencil lines to black lines.

You'd be surprised how many "artists" do exactly what you're doing. In fact it's actually quite common in the animation field, and I'm not just talking about "in betweens" and rotoscoping.

If you allow me a critique, your characters are nice, you just need to work on your character's action, which can be difficult to convincingly produce. It's why many artists will have model sheets (Space Ghost Animation Model Sheets (http://www.tothfans.com/thumbs.php?a=g0w3zqv8v7d2cfc65tbne13102007231820&row=)) drawn up of their particular character in order to get the look down just right. It really helps nail the look and gives the character their own distinctive personalities.

My next criticism would be the backgrounds. Nothing wrong with using actual photography for backgrounds, it's been around in comics since the '60s (good examples would be "Nick Fury: Agent of Shield" and "The Warlord"), but the background should not overwhelm or distract the viewer. Even simple techniques like changing the opacity on up to using a posterization can mean a world of difference and allow the characters to stand out.

You've got some skill and talent, rough as it is, you just need a few tweaks and changes to really make your art pop. I recommend taking a long look at the following books:

How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way (http://www.amazon.com/How-Draw-Comics-Marvel-Way/dp/0671530771) (one of my all time favorites!)
Will Eisner's Expressive Anatomy for Comics and Narrative (http://www.amazon.com/Expressive-Anatomy-Comics-Narrative-Instructional/dp/0393331288/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_c) (or any of his instructional comic art series (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Will+Eisner+Instructional+Books&x=0&y=0))
The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics (http://www.amazon.com/DC-Comics-Guide-Digitally-Drawing/dp/0823099237/ref=pd_sim_b_4) (I hesitate to highly recommend this one as they rely heavily on using Photoshop and a little Illustrator, as they are an industry standard, but with a little knowhow you can use Gimp and Inkscape as needed)

You are also welcome to throw out anything I just wrote and do whatever you want! 8-)
