    cape making

Does anyone know the best way to cut out a cape pattern without the fabric moving around on you.

Welcome to the MM! To cut capes, I lightly coated a piece of paper with spray adhesive (like SprayMount) and let it dry. Then I press on the vinyl cape material and cut it out. The paper adds just enough stiffness. If the spray adhesive dried before attaching the vinyl, you'll have an easy time removing the paper.

Sometimes I just use some white chalk and draw/trace the pattern on to the fabric.

Or if you are using a tissue paper pattern, you can just pin it right on to the fabric.

I tape the patterns down with shipping tape, this way I usually get a really good sharp edge that does not need trimming or hemming.
