It seems like Serling's work on Twilight Zone was preperation for working on the POTA script. Themes he had used on TZ pop up in POTA and are even more striking than they were on TV. The Anti-Hero astronaut vs. the Patriotic Astronaut, the ruin of civilization, Humanity portrayed as inconsequential, ( as cattle and as zoo attraction), post-apocalyptic cosequences of war, the sane man in an insane world and a surprise ending that has never been beat.

I couldn't have said it better myself! :yes: I refer it to younger people as "The Final Twilight Zone Episode". This just slams hope my point.
