View Full Version : What Lunch Box did you carry to school ?
Mikey
May 18, '07, 9:01 AM
Me,
I never used a lunch box.
I always got "hot lunch" from the school.......
But many times I would secretly envy kids with cool lunch boxes.
In the class room on the bottom of the coat rack, they'd all be lined up.
The only specific one I remember was my buddy's box... It was Scoobly Doo-- and I remember it because he had a rolling stones tongue sticker on Daphnie's behind :)
So did you take a box to school ?
Maybe a plain bag ?
Or were you a hot lunchie, like me ?

I was mostly a hot lunch guy, however on those cold lunch days I proudly carried my Super Friends lunchbox to school.

Snoopy, Lidsville and Pebbles/Bamm Bamm. Those are the only 3 I remember my brother and I having. They are long gone now. I do have the '66 Batman, Super Friends, Super Powers, and Marvel Heroes waiting to be displayed someday.

I think my first one was a Walt Disney/Mickey Mouse one, the bus perhaps?
I also seem to remember 2 Scooby Doo lunchboxes, one metal and one plastic. And a Dynomutt...
I remember an older girl had a Partridge Family lunchbox that looked like the bus...she used to sit across from me.

Superfriends (my favorite which, sadly, I no longer have), Empire Strikes Back, and yes the Dukes of Hazzard (I still have that stupid thing!)
My brother had Marvel Super Heros and Return of the Jedi.
I remember having a fixation over my older friends Space:1999 lunch box.

I usually had the hot lunch too, but would on occasion take a lunch box. I had Super Friends, Masters of the Universe, and Super Powers. I still have all of these, although some are fairly rusted!
It didn't occur to me until years later, that the Super Friends lunch box is primarily aimed at...girls! The pink border and prominence of a female character on each side (Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Catwoman) was lost on me at the time. And to think I passed up the Superman: The Movie lunch box for a GIRL'S lunchbox!

Well, my mom didn't believe in lunch boxes. Before entering 4th grade, my friend gave me her old Bobby Sherman lunchbox, and her sister gave me a plain red thermos. That's the only one I ever have. Which is why I collect them now. I have SMDM, Classic Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, Fame, Knight Rider, The Monkees, Tom Corbett: Space Cadet, The Hardy Boys, 2 GIJoe ones, and Schoolhouse Rock.

I sometimes had to use my sister's Partridge Family lunchbox. The only one I can remember getting of my own was a Kung Fu lunchbox. I loved that thing!

The school I attended in Southern California didn't serve a hot lunch - everyone brought their lunch and ate outside on picnic tables.
I got a different lunchbox every year - here's what I can remember (there were more, but I can't recall them):
Disney's Jungle Book
Road Runner and Coyote (my favorite)
Scooby Doo (the one with headless horsemen)
Marvel Superheroes
Disney's Robin Hood

I remember three I had. Kung-Fu,Space:1999 and Star Wars. Around fifth grade I didn't use a lunchbox as much. I do know one thing, when I watched Welcome Back Kotter,I always wanted Arnold Horseshack's Planet of the Apes lunchbox.

1st Lunchbox was H R Puffinstuff -- ridiculed by the 2nd and 3rd graders. My older brother took pity on me and gave me his old Rat Patrol lunch kit. Dropped the thermos.:shocked2: Last one was the Marvel kit around '74-75. Once again my brother took pity on me and convinced me paper bags were the way to go...

I remember having two lunch boxes as a kid. One had superheroes from DC Comics and the other had Marvel superheroes.
I started 1st grade with one of those metal dome lunchboxes, which I want to say was some sort of Peanuts lunchbox, probably Snoopy. I was a huge Snoopy fan (still am, coolest dog in the world). I distinctly remember a 6 Million Dollar Man lunchbox and thermos, and at some point either Batman or Superheroes with Batman somewhere on it prominently. In the end I think I probably brown bagged it more often than carrying the lunchbox though.

I had a Disney Robin Hood which I think is stored somewhere and an Evel Knievel that is displayed along with my Megos. It still has the original Thermos tucked inside and is in pretty good shape.

I think I'm a little too young to have been part of the tin lunchbox crew...the only one I had was a My Little Pony plastic lunchbox with matching Thermos. I later found a Strawberry Shortcake tin lunchbox in a flea market in Aiken, SC. It had a little rust here and there, my dad helped me clean it up. Still had what I think was the original owner's name, address and phone number on paper overlaid with plastic taped into the lid...in case it got lost! I later sold it on eBay...can't remember for how much though.

Pac-Man

Return Of The Jedi
Masters Of The Universe
In first grade we would put our luches on the table at the back of the classroom until lunch time.I remember a girl and I both had Pac-Man lunch boxes. One time we took each other's by mistake and opened our boxes to discover that this wasn't what mom packed for us that morning.I remember other kids having G.I.Joe and Empire Strikes Back lunch boxes. There was another one from around that time I recall seeing in stores. In was Ronald McDonald and the McDonaldland characters in the old west.I think that Ronald was the sherriff.

The ones I remember having were Space:1999, Star Wars and KISS. I always wanted to get a Star Trek lunch box but of course that came out before my time. I wanted one in 1975. Surprised that the Star Trek lunch box was never released in the 70's until TMP's box.
Hardygirl, in that link you posted, is that a pic of you when you were young?

I had Star Trek TMP, but I'm not sure if I had any others. You would have thought I would have had an "Emergency!" lunchbox, but I didn't. I guess I missed out on them until I becam an adult. However, I did see them in use when I was a kid and always wanted one, but they were no longer available at stores.

The first lunchbox I vividly remember carrying to school was a Marvel one... it had several characters on it, including I think Captain America, Thor, and Spidey.
After that, it was a Star Wars one, and then an Empire Strikes Back one.
Edit: Just found a picture of the Marvel lunchbox on the net.
Edit 2: Thanks to samurainoir, I know realize I had the plastic version of this lunchbox!

I just found another of these last week at a flea market and upgraded from the one that had some rust spots on it.
I remember encountering this tin version and being really surprised because the Canadian one I had as a kid was red plastic with the same graphic as a sticker in front (Thor Spiderman Cap), and it didn't have the graphics on the side nor the FF on the back.
I always wondered what was up with that and why we didn't have the tin ones (as far as I can remember).

That's it! That just unlocked the memory of my Marvel lunchbox fully. I now realize I had the plastic version too.
When I found that picture of the metal one, there was something about it that didn't seem exactly right, but I couldn't quite place it.
Now I know it's because I had the Canadian plastic version!
Just had a quick look, but can't seem to find any pics of the plastic one anywhere on the net.
