1978 Kenner SSP/ Smash Up Derby Catalog

SSP stood for "Super Sonic Power" and it was one of Kenner's flagship brands in the 1970s, mostly because of the popularity of "Smash Up Derby" a toy that combined boys love of cars with their desire to wreck stuff (Genius).

1978 saw a lot of goodness with the introduction of Monsters, Vans and Star Wars to the line, such a cool brew of fun.

I so had the SSPs and Smash-Up Derby sets. Two of my all-time favorite toys.

Love my SSP's, I still bring them out once in a while for my kids to use.
      It's all good!

I remember these. These were really cool. I think I have a couple of them and a box stashed somewhere around my toy museum.

I had the ssp Star Wars vans, I have no idea what ever happened to them, thats a shame, when I look at them there even cooler now than then.

SSP's are a classic toy- simple design that works flawlessly and last forever. I can't imagine kids of any era not groovin' on these.

I had a Citgo gas station Laker special when I was little. I have 3 more Citgo Laker Specials and a CanAm. I just recently got a standard size Two Much and Blue Monday, but I need T sticks for them.

I loved Smash Up Derby as a kid, and SSP and TTP in general, I've been preparing a post about them for my Toltoys Kid blog, pulling out all the sets I've picked up over the years for some pics. Nice catalog shots B, are they pages inside a Kenner catalog or a stand alone one?
