Superman with red torso???

hi all! am new here...i wondered if anyone can help me with a question. i just picked up a vintage mego 8 inch superman on ebay - good price so am not too worried about details, but on sneaking a peek beneath his vintage robes have discovered he has a type 2 red torso - just the torso, arms and hands are flesh - dated 1974. has anybody heard of this? he also has a vintage clark kent head, rather than a superman, so am thinking this has been rebuilt with various parts - maybe spider-man?

any thoughts on this one appreciated!

I thought some Spider-Man figures had red torsos as well.

Either way, Superman shouldn't have one. Looks like someone Franken-Megoed him.

I know some Spider-Man figures have red torsos, because mine does! And I pulled mine straight off a sealed 1979 Pin-Pin Toys card about 20 years ago.

Human torch was all red body Siderman had some that had the Red Chest and hands the rest of the body was all flesh colored. So it sounds to me that you have a Superman head on a Red Chest Spiderman body (hands were probably swapped out)

If it's a type 2 body then you have a Mego from it's end run. Megos got a bit sloppy and Popped heads on any bodies. Spidey was so popular I had a red Torso Spidey with no red hands as a kid. I had Spidey a few times and it was the first thing I noticed.

for your delectation and delight...here he is! front and back shots under Debs68 in user galleries...no copyright info on back of head, so i'm guessing this is a clark kent (the head is the traditional squeezable plastic) ...

Well, I it's probably not a Clark Kent, since it's a Type 2 head (the neck plugs are different on Type 1 and Type 2) and the deep tan is mostly associated with Type 2 figures as well. Clark Kent was released during the Type 1 phase.

No copyright info on the back isn't a dead-giveaway for a Secret ID either. Many Megos are missing their copyright stamps.

Like others said, he may be a tailender manufactured that way. There are odd variations like this toward the end of Mego's life. Such as Aquman with blue gloves, etc.

Or it could be some kid (or adult) took a Spider-Man or Human Torch and fixed their Superman!
