Last night I fell in our driveway. I scraped up my hand and leg pretty bad. This morning when I woke up my leg is very stiff and it is an effort to walk. I also have some numbness in the leg. I talked to my wife and told her I will wait until the weekend ends hoping I just pinched a nerve and if I am not feeling better I'll go to the Doctor. I personally do not have discomfort when not on the leg. Do you think the right thing to do is to wait or should I see a doctor now? I personally hate doctors and only want to see one as a last resort. I will however love any advice some of you with experience in the medical field can lend.

I'm no Doctor ..... but i'd see a quack if I were you.
If the leg just had a bloody scrape--- ok.
But if there's numbness, you might be looking at a buildup of water.
Keep this as a rule....
If you have to ask if you should.....
You probably should :)
At our age,
We gotta watch for stuff like this because in later years things that don't seem bad could turn into arthritis in 20 years.

Really depends on your past med history but always better safe than sorry.

I personally hate goinng to the doc,
But, if you have numbness and diffuculty walking, GO Go Now! You may have chipped a bone or a hairline fracture. Plus you want to make sure you dont get a infection from the scrape.
Let us know how your doing
Mitch
Hmmmm....
I've had a zillion injuries like that. You've probably got some serious internal bruising, and the bruises pushing on your muscles and stuff is what's causing the stiffness. Sharp pain, of the "screaming in bed" variety usually accompanies more serious injuries.
But still; if you get the chance go see a doc. Better safe than sorry.

John:
I worked for 9 years as a nurse and, though I would personally would give it at least a few days (nobody hates doctors and hospitals like I do), you can never be too careful.
If you can see a doctor, then take the time and do it, especially if you're feeling numbness.
The way these things usually go for me is I wait about a week, then make the appointment (which takes another week), and by the time it comes to go to the appointment, I'm totally fine!

John go see a doctor. If you have to ask it's bothering you enough to get it checked out. Besides you've got less than 2 weeks to get better. We're not pushin' your *** around WV in a wheelchair. :smiley1:

Personally I hate doctors and only go to them as a last resort. As a kid I once walked around on a broken leg for 3 days till my mom finally forced me to go see a doctor. I figured it was sprained, turned out it was broken.
Anyway, scrapes are nothing, but numbness can't be good. Even I'd see a doctor about that

I went to the Doctor yesterday and learned that I piched a nerve in my leg, Chipped the kneecap, and severely bruised the right side of my right leg. The Dr. Told me time was the best medicine. He told me he could take the chip ot if I wanted but that it posed no threat. I told him no thank you. I can actually put more weight on it today and some swelling has gone down. I will DEFINATELY be ready for megomeet!

Hey,
Go see a doctor.
Pain is one thing, numbness is something else.
Go see a doctor.
As a vet, I can honestly say my best advice is - If concerned, have it checked out.
Go see a doctor.
Probably will turn out to be nothing, but better to be safe than crippled.
Go see a doctor.

P.S. Did I mention to go see a doctor?

I hate doctors as much as the next person. I don't know how old you are but I am 38 and I am finally starting to get that I'm not 21 anymore.
I excercise and coach a competive girls soccer team and having played myself, I will get out there and run and play some ball with them. I almost always regret it the following day....
It is always best to see a doctor when in doubt especially based on the symptoms you described.

The times of my life where I've gotten no excercise and little physical activity are times that I've felt the best.
Last year I'd worked out for a year, I was looking pretty good and felt great except for the injured rotator cuff I aquired. So I laid off the excercise for a while and then decided to do some cardio and lower body wieght training until I did something to my right hip. This weekend I hurt my back while doing yard work. I haven't seen a Dr. thinking that eventually I will heal myself, but I'm begining to wonder. I guess you know you're aging when sleep hurts.
Time to go back to the couch.

You did take quite a spill. Glad to hear that you got checked out and are on the mend. Still I'd take it easy for a while. What a great excuse to get out of yardwork!
