Anybody else notice the growing trend of sellers parting out figures on ebay?

Megos?
I know it's a huge thing with the 1/6th community. As soon as a Hot Toys type figure is released, you suddenly see all the parts split up by sellers online to sell to the customizers.

It does make sense that people are parting out mego figures. A regular batman goes for roughly $50 on a good day complete. You take it apart and piece the items out to more than double the amount per figure.

I can see it being useful if you only need a specific part, but I'd personally never trash a whole figure for the sake of ebay sales. Especially a vintage piece. Newer stuff, Who cares?

I was all over it on Action Man 40th.
But it seemed like eventually I bought the whole uniform anyway.
I like the option. A LOT!
Saves money and what am I suppossed to do with the rest of a figure if I only wanted his hat or gun?

when you are looking for only 1 or 2 parts it is fantastic.....if you are looking for the whole thing, not so much as it gets way too pricey.

Agreed. It's a good thing I was really looking for glossy folded cardboard in fashion colors at $1 a square inch though - because boy has that been easy to find.

I dont really have a problem with this practice, I just think it is on the increase, some what.

I know I have had to buy whole figures for parts in the past. Once I was done with what I needed; I would split up the rest and sell to others who needed parts. It was a win/win for me as I ended up getting the money back in parts that I paid for the whole figure. I really don't see an issue with it. The demand is there and as long as bidders are willing to pay premiums for it; the practice will continue.

I have this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250771823398&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT) up right now (yeah, shameless self promotion, hehe).
If I can make some cash, awesome. But really, I hate throwing anything away and creating landfill out of vintage stuff and I have a horder mentality thinking there is somebody out there that can find something like that useful.
I have a love/hate relationship with the selling of accessories and body parts. I love when I can sell something that fits into a tiny bubble mailer for $10 or more, but I HATE when I need something like that and it's over $10.
