View Full Version : Karloff Mummy

Hey all,
Finally got my Mummy done and carded up. I've spent a lot of time developing this line because I wanted it more so than any other line I've done, to really have that 70's, nostalgic feel that would take me back to flipping through an issue of Famous Monsters. Like I've said many times before, it's always a struggle for me to keep the mego feel to everything and not go too crazy with the realistic detail. For some reason, they always wind up looking not quite the way I pictured, but I gotta say this Mummy is pretty close and I had an absolute blast making him. I even painted the background texture for the card!

Terrific detailing--and that may be the best monster card I've ever seen!!
Is that Basil Gogos's art, or from the '90s stamps?

Sandy, Is the mummy the only monster u have done or are there others and or are u doing any in the future? Im considering the mummy it is beautifully done. Do u collect any of the tomlands, lincolns or ahi monsters per chance?

You nailed him. That sculpt is dead on. What is the poseability like? It's hard to tell whether or not the arms and legs move, not that it really matters I guess.
He looks great Sandy. Nice job.

First off, that sculpt and the figure, as a whole, are right on the "Mummy"!!! I could go on and on, but I wouldn't say anything that hasn't been said nor would I say it near as well as any of my fellow posters.
I'll focus my comments on the card. It is beautiful, amazing,...well, you really did right, Amigo!!!
AND...I REALLY dig your CMonster Logo at the bottom. Clever!!!:cool_y:

Thanks, Todd. Most customizers put their logo on their cards/boxes. I know Farley and BK do it. So does Derek. The cards are always collaborations with the very talented graphic artists here in the forum. I'll contribute designs, ideas or a sketch here and there, but I don't really do graphics or make clothes. Sometimes there are 1or 2 more people involved in bringing the Cmonster customs to life. I'm fortunate to know some pretty talented folks that do great stuff and are such a pleasure to work with!

Yea, I was wondering how posable it was too? Seems kinda stiff. But cute though.

Actually, he was sort of poseable before he got painted. Once the paint and matte finish were applied, the whole figure got kind of hard and didn't move very well. Poseability was never something I was good at, even back when I sculpted a lot of action figures. As a matter of fact, after a while, most of the companies I worked for would just have me sculpt the figures without joints and then just have them done in China during production. :smiley1:
I always thought joints were really clunky and most action figures had too many of them, but I understand why they're there. Without them, it's a statue and not a toy. I think it's really cool that guys like Farley can make their own bodies and have them be super poseable. It would be kind of hard to make the Mummy the way I made him and also have him be really poseable. I was more into capturing the look and feel of this particular figure.

^^ You did capture the look..most definitely. And pose-ability is a personal taste IMO. Sometimes you have to lose it to achieve the look you want.

Also, regarding that particular character, he never moved much in the film. LOL. He just kinda walked around really slowly. Pretty much...
