Little plastic space men (circa 1977-78)

I think everyone knows the little green plastic soldiers that came in plastic bags with a cardboard header, usually found in dime stores.

There was a spin-off of this around the time of Star Stars. Instead of green army soldiers, there was pink, white, black, lime green, and maybe blue, space characters heavily influenced by Star Wars. Anyone remember these?

There was an astronaut, a woman with Farrah Fawcett-hair standing next to a computer console, a little flat robot ("R2D2"), a guy looking a little like Vader- waving a laser sword, a classic Buck Rogers-type character, a bug-eyed alien with crab-like claws, and I think there might of been one more looking like a relative of Chewbacca's.

I had a whole bag of these that was mixed in with my army soldiers and cowboys and Indians.

I came across a guy on the internet selling ONE of these plastic space figurines for $75!!!

Anyone have/had these? Was there a name for them other than something generic? Was there any other characters in the space line? Maybe a play set?

All the ones I've had were lost to time...

they never really had an official name that I know of. they were made by Timm Mee toys aka Processed Plastics, which is now owned by J. Lloyd International.

they still make these once in a while and sell them in tubs like the army men ones you see from the Toy Story movies.

there was a boxed sort of playset....came with figures, a cardboard base, and a couple of space craft that look like an x-wing f-16 fighter plane.

Too many toys. Not enough space!

        Great pics!

I remember the space Patrol name now..it was used on the kid sized helmet and ray gun that Tim Mee also sold.oh, and the sword with the little doodad that slid back and forth in the blade

Always thought it was neat this stuff actually looked the same as the weapons the little figures had

I think I have a few of those. I thought they were from a Buck Rogers set though from around the same time.....same molds maybe?

I used to tie those space guys to bottle rockets on the 4th of July as a kid.

                  Neat!

I think some of the more astronaut-lookin' ones are MUCH older though. I remember getting sets of them when I was a lid long before Star Wars. ANd there might have been bigger ones.... I kinda remember an astronaut and that square R2 lookin' thing at 4" high.
