Simulated wood carving toy from the 70s?

    Hello, new guy here.

Does anybody remember this? It was a simulated (fake, that is) wood carving toy that started out looking like a piece of rough wood, like a small branch with the bark still on. The outer part was soft plastic, or clay, or something that could be "carved" away with a dull knife; inside was the "finished piece" made of a harder plastic. There were 2 or 3 different finished pieces to choose from, and the shape of the rough piece reflected it. The one I remember was a crocodile or alligator.

For the life of me I dont remember what it was called. I really wanted one. I remember it advertised in comic books. The alligator in particular was my fav. I never saw it in stores.

          I remember something similar
it was a "block" of stone or clay and came with a yellow hammer and chisel.
          mine were sports figures.

I had both the "wood" and "marble" toys. The "marble" one was "Chip Away" [thanks to a MM member for that when I couldn't remember it], I don't recall the name of the faux wood one.
            .

Well, if the stone one was called "Chip Away", I figured the wood one must have been called "Whittle Away." I googled that name, and it looks to be correct.

in the 70s, Toys of the Seventies, Whittle Away
