Batman and Joker race to the death

Time to take an indepth look at one of the more premium products made by Azrak Hamway, this time it's the Batman Road Race set. Normally, AHI stuck to low cost rack toys and released the higer priced items through their Remco brand but occasionally they'd do a higher price point item like this road race set and well, do a pretty good job of it.

As you can see the big star of this set are the cars, how cute are these? It doesn't hurt that the Joker's car looks like Wonderbug.

The track is generic but AHI threw in a lot of cardboard goodies to keep the Batman vibe goind, I especially like the Joker card.

This may have been 1975 but the influence from the TV series is still very obvious, it's a little cardboard Bronson canyon!

One has to wonder how long before the Batmobile loses a wheel so the Joker can get away.

Thanks for the close look. I've always wondered about the details on this!

Looks like a lot of goofy fun!

Those cars are so cute. I always wished for slot car sets when I was a kid.

I've come across bits and pieces of these over the years, I would have killed for one when I was a kid. I'm really surprised more of this kind of stuff wasn't made. Seems like every kid property today has a race set or train set of some kind.

That's cool. Never owned that, but I did have a Spider-Man vs the Fly racetrack set as a kid, which I loved.

Cute cars, but I have to say that the cave art makes Mego playsets look like Rembrandt.

I had the generic version of this set. Came with two dune buggies (ala the Joker) with black roofs instead of the Joker. Crummy toy that never worked right. Used batteries in the hand controllers for power. The pick up strips on the car were a metallic fiber and every time you went into a corner the strips moved off the rail...and the cars stopped. Once you made a couple of laps (if you could) the batteries would run down just enough that the cars moved like turtles..and then sat and hummed.

the Batman set looks cool though!!

Had plenty of race car sets but never seen this one. I totally believe Captain's review of the quality but it sure would look nice on display today, wouldn't it?
