View Full Version : Do all mego wgsh have copyright on the back of their heads
I picked up a Superman head in great condition for $6.00 and when I received it, it turned out to be a Clark Kent Alter Ego head. There were no markings on the neck.
ORIGINAL MEGO HEAD: SUPERMAN - (eBay item 110174595818 end time Sep-26-07 16:00:58 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110174595818&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001)
Not bad for $6.00 if I do say so myself... :wink_y:

The lack of markings on the neck does not necessarily mean it came from an AE.

Great grab that head!!! Great eye, congrats Bill! :2thumbsup:

I was always under the impression that only the AE's came with no markings on the neck. Which other's could it be?

It certainly looks like the correct skin tone for an AE head.
Congrats! Nice pickup.

From my experience, and please note that I was AE obsessed for several years, some AEs do have markings on the neck, and some regular heroes (Bats, Supes, and RM Robin) can be found without markings or with faint markings.
Sorry, I don't mean to be a joykiller.
I am interested in other opinions on this topic. Brain? Chatlin? Anthony?

I've seen Secret Identities with markings and without, and I've also seen regular heroes with and without markings. Mego undoubtedly had more than one mold for each head, and someone apparently forgot to engrave one or more. I certainly wouldn't turn down a complete Clark Kent with copyright info on his neck.

Again, and this is fact~ Peter Parker is the only AE head to offically have no markings. Markings were removed Because a DC Character(Shazam) was used for a Marvel head(Peter Parker) How can I be the only oe who knows this for sure?
Bruce, Dick, and Clark are acceptable with or without markings~ Skin color does not matter either~ An early head is an early head~
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, you could probably still sell the head on E-bay for $20.00 -$30.00 as an early Mego Head or AE HEAD~ Somone will buy it~
Not trying to be a jerk this time~

Oh, you're not the only one, John. I just wanted someone else to substantiate my thoughts on the subject.

Well you are substantiated there Dan~ As much as it pains me to say I belive ABMAC is completely right~ Mego had more than 1 set of molds. Just kidding with you Abbie~ Abbie Abbie BoFabbie Something Something Something Flabbie~ ABBIE~
C'mon that was pretty good

That's great info guys. I'm not bummed out at all. I was actually looking for a clean Superman head and $6 is not a bad price for one. So, AE or not, I'm happy with the purchase.
Besides, I do have all the original AE's so I'm cool there.
Just when I thought I had this whole AE thing licked...
Oh well... you learn somthing new every day.
Thanks again

Hello I have a shazam and his head has no copyright. It is not a peter parker head because his eyes are black not blue and it is not repro either. I was just wondering if there are some wgsh heads with no copyright on the back. Thanks.

Could the eyes have been colored in?

They don't look like they have been painted in. Is it possible there are black eyed peter parkers. Could mego have done this.?????????????????

Pics would be helpful.
I've had some Superman heads with very very faint copyright info on the back. Anything is possible with Mego.

I must agree, some of my Mego I have looked at and said "Oh my god, is this a prototype?" only to feel silly when I see the copywrite has been misprinted in the hair and not the neck making it virtually invisible, or some time's it appears that the copyrwrite has faded off or not printed properly.

This may sound stupid but,
Is there any way to see where it would have been like a blicklight or something
Thanks,

I have a blacklite I'll use it and see what I can see.
Do or do not the Secret Identity/Alternate Ego heads have the Mego trademark on the back. The Museum gallery says they do not, but I thought I remember someone here having a package one that did. Maybe it was just one character.
I ask, because I bought a few AJ figures and a T1 Supes was in the bunch. He has no markings on his neck so I was wondering...

Thanks Ant, but the thread does not seem very definitive. Other than Dave having a few Supes heads with very faint copyrights amd Supercrazy's Shazam, I'm still not sure if there is a general consensus among collectors. Unless the conclusion is that Mego was amazingly unpredictable.
I thought I had recalled a discussion specific to the 4 SI/AE heads that may have contradicted the Museum entree.
Well damn, Bill. If you don't get an answer in one thread, start another one just like it.
I didn't realize what you were suggesting with your original post. I did not see the original thread.
And by no means did I intend to offend with my unforgiveable trespass.

Well damn, Ant. Not everybody on this forum checks every single thread.
