    Comic Books based on Toys

We look back fondly at the success of Transformers, GI Joe, Micronauts and He-Man as comic books, but what about all the others?

        Hmmmm....

I think "Crystar" was more toys for the comic. It's funny how different the earlier ones were from the idea of the toys; and as they went along they started perfecting the formula. ("Micronauts" was SOOOOO different from the toys.... especially once I found out the Microman story....) Hell; just from the 80's there were SOOOO many. You left out Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, Starriors, The Getalong Gang. And earlier there was Captain Action, Microbots....

And I could self plug, I had a lot of fun writing this (save for reading some of the comics) a while back:

Didn't Big Jim's PACK have a comic or 2 as well?

And while it's not exactly the same thing, Major Matt Mason had a Big Little Book called "Moon Mission".
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

                    Sweet Jebus!

What was the biggest shame to me was when Marvel's Star Comics initiative of the eighties went from being a Harvey Comics style riff to just a dumping ground for their licensed toy tie in titles.

This is the same gentleman who did Maxx FX? Keen! Big Fan of that one. I seem to recall stumbling across his website a few years back when we were excavating for the Maxx FX Creature suit.

                              Oh man!

So much.... well; not FAIL.... not exactly.... A lot of these books were absolutely HORRIBLE, but still contained some weird little something that made them interesting. Transformers was like that. The book is bad in every sense and yet still appealing.
