I know I’ve gone on a rant like this before but I can’t help myself. Like I said in the title I’m on a “Pseudo – Mego High” so I’ll blame my actions on the plastics.
I just received a large box chock full of CTVT stuff from a recent transaction with HULK. For those of you that missed the thread / sale I picked up a total of 23 figures including mad monsters series 2, Tex Willer figures, a Jet Jungle and an I love Lucy that’s a Christmas gift for my mother in law plus some others. Cracking open that box at lunch was a genuine thrill. Alicia gets a kick out of watching her grown husband turn into a giddy 8 year old every time a transaction such as this occurs. That in itself is an extra bonus really.
Anyway, as I was rummaging through the box the question still pounds in my brain as to why these toys failed so hard? I know the quality issues are obvious but considering the level of cash that was shelled out by the CTVT guys in the first place for all of the properties and licenses that they picked up, I can’t believe there wasn’t more appeal. Had the line(s) took off I believe the CTVT guys would have made some improvements which I understand has happened. But then again I am hopelessly optimistic type that is addicted to the 8 inch format so maybe it’s only my point of view.
Back to the point I was going for with this thread is that the magic of these toys is simply incredible to me. I just wish there was a way to really introduce the fun that can be had with some imagination and a handful of Mego’s to today’s generation of kids. Again I can’t thank Hulk enough for making me such a sweet deal on all of these PLUS a Ralph head that soon will be a completed custom Greatest American Hero.
