Apparently, yesterday was so hot in L.A. that it became a hand of death.... killing one of my all-time favorite film editors.... R.I.P. Menke.
Sally Menke, Tarantino's editor, found dead on hiking trail - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/09/28/tarantino.editor.death/index.html)

QT must be devastated. He and Sally were a team since the beginning, like Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker.

Wow. Really sad to hear this. I was a big fan.
I used to watch scenes in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction over and over, studying their rhythm and cadence. Pulp Fiction has great continuity between cuts. You can watch Travolta take a drag on his cig, then it cuts to someone else - Travolta will be mostly out of view - but you'll still see the puff of smoke enter the frame at just the right moment. And the interesting thing about her (and QT) is they always knew when not to cut, in order to increase tension. That's a skill that many modern-day editors seem to lack. She seemed like a really modest, unassuming person in her interviews, and I feel like I learned a lot from her work. She will be missed.

I'd think you wouldn't have heard of ANY film editors at ALL (let alone Menke),
unless you were interested in that sort of thing Mike.
However...
... if ANYone has even a medium interest in Tarantino's films,
her presecence is all over EVERY ONE of those films,
being that she was his main confidant in achieving
the main vision of his films....that all important "final cut".
