I love this place...it's still relatively safe compared to other Mexican cities (far from the border)...and my Iranian-American friend just got back from there after a few months (she studied Spanish)...she didn't want to come back...lol.

If you like old world charm in the new world, and love old architecture, museums, churches, and the arts...Guanajuato is the place to go...it also caters to lots of foreign students...the university/school lifestyle is great down there...

What no pick of the mummys in Guanajuato. I was there when I was young and still only remember the mummys. Dont recall anything else.

Wow, looks beautiful! I would love to spend time in Mexico. I've been getting interested lately in Mayan ruins (not a 2012 thing, I really like the architecture) and this place looks fantastic too. Very European looking. I grew up in Phoenix and I've only ever been to Nogales (SP?). That was when I was 11 or 12. A lot of people I know have a negative view of any place in Mexico that isn't a coastal tourist resort because of things like poverty and the awful things that are happening in a few places along the border. It's a pity, because the interior is such a beautiful, diverse country.

Wow that is just beautiful, I had no idea there were places like that in Mexico.

Just this morning, I was lamenting about how our modern day buildings are so freakin' ugly...lately I have been playing a game which is set in 14th Century Italy, and the architecture was so beautiful. These pictures look remarkably like the game (which is based on real places). So much for progress....

I'm going to post some Mexico City pictures...a sharp contrast to Guanajuato...Mexico City is full of modern but funky and weird-looking buildings...it will be fun...

If you visit Mexico come on down to Saltillo and hang out at the Monster Cafe. It's my cafe based on the Universal Monsters and other movies of the early years.

Yes, after the conquest of Mexico by the Conquistadors...the Spaniards started building their stuff (with indigenous labor of course)...Guanajuato is just one example...you'll find cities like that throughout Mexico....the city of Puebla is another fine example.

Besides the architecture itself, what I really like about it is the vast use of colors everywhere.

Using so many colors and contrasts (if done wrong) could come out looking loud and generally sloppy... It works here, though
