I like that whole first season Baker had, although I find Genesis a tad too long and stretched too thin budget wise.

I agree ... actually I find any story over 4 episodes long and stretched.

1. Seeds of Doom (tho haven't seen this in a looong time, may not hold up as good as I remember, when are they ever going to release this on DVD?)
2. Horror of Fang Rock
3. City of Death
4. Brain of Morbius
5. Pyramids of Mars
6. Talons of the Weng-Chiang
7. Deadly Assasin
8. Image of Fendhal
9. Robots of Death
10. Sontaran Experiment (not great, but it's short, shot on location all on video so it looks nice)

I'll give Revenge of the Cybermen a nod only because it's the first story I ever watched and owned on VHS. But man, it almost turned me off of Who.

I just got some of these from Mikey and I gotta say, they're growin' on me. LOL! I didn't really grow up with it, other than remembering my dad watching them and that awesome theme music, but they're kinda "Krofft-esque" in their execution, so of course they've got that going for them.

Nice thread Mike. As the First Doctor I ever saw on tv or a convention Tom is always close to my hearts (but he was deposed to 2nd fav Doctor when I saw Jon Pertwee's era after the Davison era). There are so many greats I will limit to my 10 most fav's. Just missing the cut were Ribos operation, Pirate Planet (Douglas adams and tom Comedy at their best) and Robot. I forget how really great season 14 is till I think about it. the worst story of the season, Masque of mandragora, is still pretty good but

10 Genesis of the Daleks -if it wasnt for the fact this story has forced almost every dalek storry since to focus on Davros It would have gone higher
9 Terror of the Zygons
8 Seeds of Doom
6 Robots of Death
7 hand of fear
5 Deadly Assasin
4 Face of Evil
3 Talons of Weng Chiang
2 City of Death
1 Android Invasion

you will of course notice I have not put any of the Burgandy coat stories a bad end to a great run - kind of like the 5 2009 specials season of Tennant

Tom Baker stories which were the most memorable to me include:
Genesis of the Daleks
The Brain of Morbius
The City of Death
The Sontaran Experiment
The Horns of Nimon
The Pyramids of Mars
Revenge of the Cybermen
The Ark in Space
And a bunch of others. That was my favourite DW era.

Agreed on the Cyberman episode. As MUCH as I love the Cyberman.., that one was a chore to sit through..

AND Agreed on the 6-part eps.. They ALL seem padded to me. They turn decent stories into quite a 'time and attention' commitment.

I don't know any 6-parters that wouldn't have been improved by editing them down as a 4-parter. That would have added a lot more punch.

Hmmmm....

Any of the pre-Key to Time run, but Brain of Morbius is my all-time fave. (It was also the first one I ever saw.)

Just watched Sontaran Experiment last night.

Man, the use of video tape outdoors was striking.

Shame they didn't keep doing that.
