I could care less about Heroes, that show has sucked for a while now... But Law & Order?! They were just about to break the record for longest running drama. They deserve their final 21st season.

For me Law and Order has kind of stunk for quite a while now.

After Jerry Orbach left it was never the same.

The only L&O series I watch now is SVU

Hmmm....

I'm a big Law and Order fan, but yeah; the last few years haven't been too good. I think it's 'cos they're trying too hard to make the characters CHARACTERS, and they've played up the adversarial relations way more than they used to. (Which smaks of the much hated "GRRRR!!!! I'm ANGRY!!!!" school of characterization.)

Still; 20 years is a good run.

So did they cancel all the Law & Order shows, or just the original?

I think Meloni and Hargitay's contracts will take them through the 2011 season so SVU isn't going anywhere yet.

I love Law and order SVU, but is it just me or does the writer have ADD? I always starts with a rape and by the end its about saving the whales and along the way they destroy everyones lives in the process of the investigation lol

One thing I miss about SVU lately, they always used to have a "guest molester" :smiley1:

It would usually be an actor or actress that you'd never think would be a molester like Margot Kidder or Martin Short :smiley1:

Never really watched L&O so won't miss that. Always hate to see a long-running show end anyway.
Heroes was rumored for cancellation. That's why they kind of tied things up in the season finale. While I really enjoyed Heroes, they just lost a lot of potential with that series. Seemed like they were always introducing new characters and before you even got to know them they kill them off. Like the person mentioned ADD above; it was like they started off in one direction and then ended up in a totally unrelated place. That and the super-long hiatuses coupled with that one shortened season killed it.

at least they renewed Chuck

I LOVE "CHUCK"! I am so glad they renewed it.
One show i do miss is Reaper, though (not NBC but you got me thinking about it).

It seemed to me that after season one, the people on Heroes (producers, writers etc) didn't have a creative vision as to where they wanted to take the show. There were so many missed story opportunities it drove me nuts. The writers had characters behaving inconsistently as well as changing what powers thay had or how they worked and they never knew what to do with Hiro. Instead they wasted half a season ripping off old storylines from X-Men.

Never watched Heroes, but I love Law and Order, all of them. Shame to see the original go

Their biggest mistake was taking Peters powers away and then not giving him them back. The Sylar, am i good or bad guy thing drove me nuts. Clare bear could do ... what?
I always hope Hiro would become the pony tailed Samurai from the future .. but know, he turned into more of a clown. Yep,had great potential, but no direction.

I think my big issue with canceling Law & Order is that with one more season it would be the longest running show of it's kind. Obviously the format isn't dead, with new L&O spinoffs coming, so why not give it a proper final and record breaking season?

The problem here is Network interference. Milo Ventimiglia said so in TV guide after Season 2 ended that the network got too involved in the storylines. He said they have to go away and let the producers get on with making the show. This why we had the Leno/O'Brien debacle, why SNL is never very funny except in election years; Network Interference. In tv & movies the writer is considered the most disposable employee on the production. This is where it has got them. A last place network and unhappy viewers.

Heard another channel may be interested in L&O if it's available. Seems crappy to drop it with only one season needed to break the record. It's not as entertaining as it once was, but it's hardly the worst thing on TV. I say let it run for one more season and try some radical changes. If they work you keep it going, if not you end it as the longest running show in history and you probably do OK in the ratings because everyone knows it will be the final season.

Heroes was great and now it sucks. I would love to see someone like SyFy grab that and keep it going but the contracts for those actors will be way to high for a small market channel.

Maybe if you centered it around one character like Hiro and then guest starred the others in every couple of weeks as he time jumped around. That could keep the storyline from bouncing in and out every five minutes but still let all the arcs inter mingle while keeping the salary cost down.

For L&O they need to fire the entire cast accept Waterston and begin again.

L&O sucks because the cast sucks.

They need to go back to basics and hire personalities rather than stiffs

I couldn't disagree more about L&O. The two main cops are pretty entertaining now and Mike Cutter is the best DA character the show has ever had aside from Sam Waterston. The dynamic between Waterston's character and Cutter is brilliant.

The show isn't doing terrible in the ratings, but it's had a pretty signifigant drop from highs a few years ago... Of course EVERYTHING on NBC is way down, so it's hard to blame L&O which is still chugging along fine.

I'm hoping they do the Heroes tv movies or mini series. Was there any news at comic-con?
