    By Your Command!

Jason Lenzi from Bif Bang Pow Sent in this wunderbar shot of him at Universal Studios circa 1979 with a real live Cylon. This is just a small sample of some of his cool vacation pics from that tour that I'll brining to the site in the next few weeks. Looking at them, it's no wonder the guy makes cool toys now. Great pic. And THAT's what a Cylon is supposed to look like. I like the new Battlestar Galactica show, I just hate the design of the Cylons

As a kid, to me that would have been way cooler than meeting Mickey Mouse. I wonder if the costume had the scanner eye. It is hard to see if there was one lit in the photo. I can also imagine how hot that must have been wearing that on a bright day.
                    It's all good!

The classic Cylon is still one of my favorite villains of all time. Sure they were pretty easy to destroy (just toss some lint anywhere in their vicinity) but they looked and sounded cool. The look and sound of their single moving eye, the robotic monotone sound of their voice, the shiny armor...it all adds up to awesomeness.

When I was a kid, we were interested in film and my older brother was starting a career in special makeup effects. One year when we visited Los Angeles (from the east coast where we lived) my brother contacted the now Oscar winning makeup artist Rick Baker (who my brother would eventually work for a few years later). Rick took us on a tour of the Universal Studios lot, and we saw endless amounts of cool stuff. We got to walk around the bridge of ethe Battlestar Galactica. Too bad I didn't take a photo, I guess I was just too in awe at the time.

There's this guy who used to enter the Star Trek con costume contests all the time dressed as a Cylon. This was no chinsy outfit! He had the scanner eye, the sound effects, the robotic Cylon voice. After winning 3 times in a row, I think they asked him not to enter anymore. It just wasn't fair to the other participants.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I always thought it was interesting how the Cylons had skinny arms and big beer guts... but they could still wipe out your planet. Ahh, the power of technology!
