The candy cigarette thread gave me a 70's flashback .....

We had a local fruit stand here that also used to sell candy, soda etc.

Anyway, one of the candys pop out in my mind and I don't think i've ever seen it again.

It was a box of wax bear candy .... Not really candy, more like --- I dunno :)

There was like 6 wax bears in a box and they looked like they were literally made of wax .... Inside them was flavored liquid syrup.

To this day, i'm not sure how they were suppose to be eaten.

I used to suck the syrup out and throw the wax away (thinking it might be poison -- or at least disgusting to eat)

Has anyone ever heard of these things ?

I don't remeber the bears, but I do remember the wax soda bottles with the drink inside, they were big the same time the wax lips were out.Was it ever safe to eat or chew on wax?

We used to have "straws" like that.
A wax tube with different flavored juices.
Some would chew the wax,I never cared for them myself.

I liked the ones that were shaped like bottles with the liquid in them. I also enjoyed the wax lips. I liked chewing on them as a kid. Kind of a crazy idea but back then it worked. Heres a link to the Wax bottle ones I'm talking about. You can still buy them. :beaming1:

My brother and I used to drink the syrup and then save the wax. We used to melt the wax down in the oven and then use it to make sculptures like one would use playdoh. (we used to burn our fingers a lot, too).

Yep, I had those as a kid, and I found some at Michael's craft store some years ago. In fact, they had all kinds of retro candy: Pop Rocks, Razzles, candy necklaces, candy buttons, Fun Dips, Whistle pop...I felt like I was 7 years old again!

Sweet! I go to michaels pretty regularly. Mostly since it's next to one my favorite places to eat. I dig pop rocks and candy buttons. I never had razzles before. :beaming1:

As a kid, I didn't get this stuff....as an "adult" I've come to realize
that its no different than gum...i.e. something to chew on that eventually
runs out of flavor....BUT this has the "novelty" of starting out as
s different kinda thing....decorative, different texture.

Yeah, I remember buying the little pop bottles and I kinda remember them doing other shapes as well. They came in little six-packs, all different colors but all the same flavor- sweet.

We drank the juice, got wired up on the sugar, then threw little balls of the chewed up wax at each other.

Good times.
