Where is the thread about the reissueing of the POA figures?

If it disappeared, it probably got too ugly and/or too repetitive to continue. Best left alone for a while.

This is the part where someone responds, "Huh uh - repros suck!"

yeah the thing with the GAH figure was that it was made an exclusive for a toy convention and only 400 made in a market of 1000's of mego collectors,it was actually only like $50 at the show,I'm sure if it would've been done in high quantities like the Trek figures it would've been a lot cheaper, that being said $300 seems pretty darn high as well

Of course you'll see Zira. She's common as dirt as a mego so why not reproduce her. Then the makers can tell us all that if we do not buy the common repros we will never get the much rarer figures. Unfortunately there are no super rare apes so extortion will not work this time. By the way, I would be one who would buy a Green Hornet or Kato figure. They at least were never made by mego thus they are not common as anything.
I'd like to see Zira only because it would show that Doc has the ability (tooling, etc) to make female figures. I suspect we won't see Zira unless we see an Uhura, but I'd be surprised by either.

Very reasonable Paul. I do understand the dynamics of what you do. Start up costs are very high no matter what your making. I also understand that Diamond is calling the shots However, do you think you can get them to bend with some kind of variation at least? Maybe give Urko a black helmet and a differant colored outfit? The cost shouldnt change
If the soldier apes were released with a black tunic instead of blue and a closer matching material (plum) for the pants and sleeves, I can tell you right now that I would buy loads and I am sure others would as well.

I agree. Some minor variations would more likely attract those that already owned originals. Maybe some additional accessories that were not included with the original releases would be attractive also. A club with the soldier ape and the Ursus and Urko for example. A whip would be cool. small things that keep it in Mego line but slightly different. If the line is directed at more than just the Mego collectors and is aimed at the POTA fan base, I think the changes would be for the better IMO. Fans would not even be aware of the changes if they're not familiar with Megos and collectors would want them because they're not exact replicas. Plus how many loose collectors like myself would possibly want the new extra accessories to go with their original figures? A POTA accessory pack would be an extra retail item from already created molds. Just some personal views. Either way keep up the good work Doc. The waiting is killing me but it's something to look forward to. Soon I can dress my EMCE apes up in my EMCE Star Trek uniforms and play Star Apes. Goody Goody!!! It's like being 7 again. medicom often sub licences to produce high end items from a master licensee. Likewise we know that Playing mantis licenced the hornet and Kato characters to make thier reissue in the 90's for captain action. unfortunately like marvel and DC the heavy hitter in herodom have a value to the trademark owner which makes them expensive to produce. personally I would love to see Grendel or MAGE hero lines but I think the market is too small to validate the cost of production.

Sep 20, '07, 10:21 AM
Well, my lips don’t have to be zipped…..
Not that I have any info anyway…
Just judging by DST’s past releases, and what the Doc has been hinting at, my prediction is that each series of two figures (after the Cornelius-Urko wave) will consist of one (near) exact repro and one new “Retro Cloth” figure.
This allows some cool combos
Repro Zira and LePage styled Ursus
Repro Soldier Ape and Heston/Francisscus Astronaut
And in Star Trek:
Repro Neptunian and Sulu
Repro Cheron and Chekov
Etc
Here’s my POTA wishlist:
LePage styled Ursus (I’m not going to buy a purple-suited Ursus, unless that is the only one EMCE makes)
MUTANTS ! !
LePage styled Soldier Apes (with correct rifles), Zaius, and, well, pretty much everything LePage has done
A Doc Mego designed horse to put these Apes on !
A Heston and/or Francissus looking Astronaut
Heston in ANSA spacesuit
Ceasar with M16
Repro Cornelius and Zira

well I highly doubt we will see any new accs or new figures as it would bring the cost up but it would cost virtually nothing to just change the helmet color and or use a differant colored dye for the outfits.
This IMO is a very reasonable and feasable solution that (again) IMO would sell more figures and make a lot more collectors happy.
If we get a traditional (exact copy) of the soldier ape which I already have loads of anyway, I MAY buy one (1).
If there was a variation of the soldier ape (black tunic, plum pants) I will be buying loads!
providing Diamond sees the light!? Its a no brainer if you ask me.

I'm not really sure how I feel about POTA repro figures. Kinda torn, worried and happy at the same time. I will buy at least one of each, the Apeaholic in me will see to that.
I have my fingers crossed that there will be variations of some sort(by accident or otherwise) They will be great for custom work.
Come to think of it, If they are in the 20-25 buck range, for the body, head, boots etc, its about worth it for custom parts.

I was just thinking that if Soldier apes were made, they'd be Type 2. Most of my vintage apes (some 60 figures) are type 1, especially the soldiers. It would be interesting to have extra type 2 soldiers. A bit different.
>Later versions of the MALE CTVT bodies seemed to improve ,BUT the female version Sucks EGGS !
I found the female bodies with necks to be passable.... but the ones without are horrible! The male bodies did improve; and the glow ones were darned near as good as an original Mego.
>I was just thinking that if Soldier apes were made, they'd be Type 2.
Yeah... and I would very much prefer T2 apes. There are a few new Apes figs I'd love to get. I still need both ape generals, and repro ones would be cheaper. (Complete anyhoo...) And I could always use more soldier apes.
>On a good day, you can buy a solider ape complete for less than DST will sell them.

I have supported the EMCE Trek line by ordering 2 cases of each of the first 3 series. I know that's not a super huge order compared to others....but then again I'm not on the re-sale end of the figures. I'm supporting the EMCE Trek line because I want to see NEW never made figures. Chekov, Sulu, a new Gorn or maybe even Kahn. IMHO there has to be a new figure in the series by wave 4 or the interest in the Retro line will be completely lost. I can tell you that I don't think I'll order any more cases if by wave 4 there isn't any new figures in the line. I understand the whole dynamics of having to deal with Diamond...they are a Monopoly and dictate to others how things will go. But they have to realize that Trek is a DEAD line....always has been and always will be. Trek collectors lose interest really quick. See the 3 different companies that have had licenses to the Trek Line. New Retro Styled figures is what EMCE/Diamond needs to do in order to keep the interest up. Again, just my opinion. When you have a talented sculptor as James Brady is...you need to utilize that talent. And it's not like he'll have to create a new sculpt...he probably still has the sculpts from the Kahn that he did...as well as the Gorn.

I know I've already said this, but I really would love to see some playsets. With Star Trek, The Enterprise set is pretty easy to come by, and not that expensive either, but an afforable Mission To Gamma VI would be nice. And since everyone on the main page was talking about the POTA Treehouse, Forbidden Zone, the Villiage and the Fortress, seeing those again (w/ more plastic than cardboard) would be cool too. If enough dads talked these things up, and got the figures for their kids, by next Christmas I could just hear some kid ask for one of those awesome playsets for Christmas, just like back in the day.

Nice try, but the analogy doesn't hold up. Using our own Palitoy as an example:
Palitoy is accessible to all, at no cost. The shoddy Palitoy wannabe is also free of charge, but the quality is obviously inferior. Naturally, nobody cares about the opinions expressed on his forum by the imitation Palitoy; the imitation is only supported by undesirable people who don't have access to the original, and by people whose compulsion to "collect 'em all!" extends to shoddy knockoffs. The original Palitoy's value doesn't change, as you say, despite the availability of a repro.
If an inferior forum with easier access appeared in reaction to the original forum's access being denied to the majority of people, then it would thrive. Under those conditions, the value of the original would be greatly reduced.

That's no way to talk about Brian, he deserves better than that

I'd give the imitation Palitoys to all my kids for chew toys and possible future M-80 fodder:-)
