Crystal Robotman - The BIOTRON everyone wants!

At my Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum exhibit, I made certain to include Takara's amazing CRYSTAL ROBOTMAN special edition of their repro classic Robotman toy (aka Mego's BIOTRON).

    Here's a shot of it:

This is probably one of my favorite Micro-toys! Fully working, with cyborg-like inner parts added to the head for some extra flair.

          Very cool.

So Crystal Robotman was a special edition of Robotman. But you say Robotman was a repro. Does that mean Takara made a repro of Biotron and called it Robotman? What is the timeline on all this?

Okay, I have just seen the regular Biotron and can see why this one is so special. Though I do like the silver head on the regular one.

Robotman came first. Mego released it here as Biotron when they did the Micronauts, which were an American release of Takara's Microman. The clear one (which combines the awesome of giant robots AND bubble domes) was a special reissue a while back, when Takara reissued a bunch of the old Microman stuff.

I think he's refering to the fact that Takara no longer had the Biotron/Robotman mold, and they had to cut new molds to make this re-issue.

That's a good offer, especially with domestic shipping.

One word of warning: Takara's repros suffered from tread rot. Most of the ones I've seen have their treads dried and broken, right in the package. It's almost completely unavoidable.
