There is a recently released book called Age of TV Heroes. It is a guide to television adaptations of comic book characters, but it includes an "interlude" chapter on the Sea World Superheroes show (which I first learned about up here). The article confirms that the design for the costumes was primarily taken from the Mego look. It also provides some further pictures, revealing even more characters than I had realized were presented (including Mary & Captain Marvel, my faves, so I'm now even more interested in seeing further images/footage).
Although that is about the only connection to toys, I recommend the book, as it covers interesting ground about several shows. It actually told me about a couple of things I didn't know/remember, and, so far as I can tell, it is only missing one show, which is rather impressive.
