Check out the sneak peek episode of the new series Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated on Cartoon Network this Monday April 5 at 7pm (check your local listings)!
I have been working as a background painter on this show since September. The art direction is very hot, it's got a look that references the old style show but is way more sophisticated than anything Scooby has had before. They are doing interesting new things with the familiar characters and it's full of homages to the original series.
I was really fortunate to get this freelance gig after my company in San Francisco went under, and the Mego Museum helped me do it. A was introduced by a friend to the head of the Warner Bros. animation division and he's a big Mego head. I gave him a set of our cards in my interview, and while it's not what got me the job, but it was a nice connection. It's definitely the coolest thing I've ever worked on.

Very cool news. I will add it to the TiVo to do list. My kids love Scooby Doo and will think it is very cool that the same guy who made the Mego Museum cards also worked on this show. Congrats!!!

Congrats Scott! I saw the commercial for the preview Friday night and I think it looks great! Looks like it's a step in the right direction for Scobby. I enjoyed "What's New, Scooby Doo?" in general, bu that "Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue" series was just not my cup of tea.

After a quick search...
Cool to see that Frank Welker will still be doing Freddy's voice, & Matthew Lillard from the live action movies will reprise the role of Shaggy.

I'm willing to bet Casey Kasem was Shaggy's Dad.
Nice touches!

Ah good, yes, it's also on regular CN at 7 here. I can record it again, mine cut off early, missed the credits. :wink_y:
Thank you, I'm thrilled to be a part of it. All credit goes to the art director, Dan Krall (Samuai Jack) , he developed the look, it's amazing. I love the way the radio station looked! The retro homages are fun.

I really think the feel of the original is there. There are some winks and nods to the original for sure, but the old cases are under the gang's belt and they are looking at them through the same skeptical eyes the audience is. However, while those cases might have been exposed by the gang....there seems to be a new twist!?
Based on that first episode, I can see this being intended as something for Parents to get on one level and Kids seeing it as their own cartoon.....much like what Batman: The Brave and the Bold has succeeded in doing.
Looked pretty good to me!

I saw only the second half, but I like what I saw, especially the ending. That'll add an element that has previously been missing. If you don't mind my asking, do you know roughly how much is hand-drawn, and how much is computer?
Congrats & good luck.

Glad you liked it. I thought the characterizations were great, good acting, and they do different things with the characters. The Velma Shaggy romance is new, I think? And we've never seen their parents. The Scooby gang are kind of neglected children, when you think about it.
Most of it is hand drawn, it's traditional animation, only the moving vehicles will be CG. It's inked and painted and composited digitally. The background painting is all done in Photoshop, but there's nothing automated about that, it's an artist painting with pixels. We use a lot of textures of paint brush marks and spatters of ink that they made for us to use.

I am almost positive Casey Kasem did the voice of Shaggy's Dad, but I can't find any hard proof of that.
It had to be him, though. Why else would someone imitate the original Shaggy as an old man and sound like Casey Kasem?
If it was him....brilliant!:cool_y: If not.....cha-ease-eeeeeeee!!!!!:juggleyes_y:
Edited: Since I last looked, they have updated the Wikipedia site. Shaggy's Dad was voiced by Casey Kasem.

I missed the opening, but my whole family really enjoyed it!!! Scooby done right, with continuity to boot! I really like the look. The characters are instantly recognizable, but tweaked toward modern sensibilities. The backgrounds had that moody, atmospheric feel that only the first two seasons of Scooby had. You and your fellow artists accomplished something no one has been able to duplicate in the last 40 years!
The monster was actually creepy, like the original Scooby villains. The ongoing plot thread and character bits were great. Glad to see they changed the town from Coolsville to Crystal Grove. Coolsville originated on "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" which was much broader than the other Scoob cartoons. But for some reason they brought that into the live-action movies and all subsequent Scooby projects.
Congrats Scott!!! You are an integral part of a real winner!

And we've never seen their parents.
Yeah, Fred's parents were in a movie, played by Tim Conway and Edie McClurg. We own it and I could probably act the whole thing out.
While I couldn't see the show I found some snippets to show the kids on Youtube, I was happily surprised to see the "new take" was to make the show back to it's roots like that. After years and years of spin offs and remakes, I'm looking forward to this.
Awesome show! Like others have mentioned, it was great to see it capture the feel of the original series while still adding in some modern elements. I really liked seeing the old villain costumes in the museum and the Don Knotts tourist character was cool too.
