View Full Version : B-1 Body - in the flesh
Here's the first flesh colored B-1 body off the assembly line. Thanks to everyone who's ordered one... I think you're really going to be happy. I'm going to tinker with the color a little. This one looks perfect most of the time, but can appear to have a pink tint in certain light.
I appreciate your patience on this project. It's going to take me a while to get these all put together. If you've pm'd me that you want one, please start paypal'ing me when you can. if you've already paid, you'll get yours first.

That looks really neat!
Love it. Can't wait to try mine out!
here's a little taste of the factory floor. these represent the various tests along the way. if there's anybody that doesn't mind getting one of these "frankensteined" together figures, let me know. I'll do these first. From here on out, they should all have matching (or as close as I can get) fleshtones. I'm having a little difficulty obtained flesh colored pin sets... so that may hold me up a little further. I have yellow pins (if anybody is okay with that). I may end up having to paint them.

I mis-read this at first, I see boss has 3000 posts. So he has been a member etc for a while but you meant he is new to customizing/making bodies I guess? Just wanted to note this for myself really...

OK, thank you.
B-1 is Muscle/Hero.
B-2 is more average Joe?
Or in Trek Language...
B-1 is Red Shirt
B-2 is Crew
I'll hope.

Thanks for posting.
a few bodies are going out this week. Everyone else who has paid should have their's in about a week and a half. If you haven't paid yet but have told me you want one, I would recommend paying sooner than later (I'm shipping in order of payment).
As these roll off the assembly line, I'll try to take some group pics as I can.

Very, very cool.
They are all for sale, right?
What is the difference between the two clear-looking ones. One looks less transparent.
Excellent work.

thanks. these particular bodies are all sold. I'm making the figures in batches and have sent the next batch of people PM's today to let them know their figures are next.
The clear body on the far right was cast a few weeks ago and the resin cured clearer. the other clear body was cast last week and is more cloudy. not sure what caused that.
Either way, I am no longer offering the clear bodies. Not because of the cloudiness, but because the last one I poured seriously tore up a couple of my molds. The flesh bodies don't seem to have that issue.

Mine have arrived. They got held up at customs, had to pay an extra $15 to receive them. Customs had opened the package, just thinking about the look on their faces when they saw 3 naked custom Mego bodies was worth it tho :smiley1:
glad they showed up Thomas. Bummer about the extra $15.

I am woefully ignorant of the various types of plastics being used in custom work these days. What kind of plastic do you use in the flesh tone bodies?
for this project I've been using Smooth-On 321 casting resins. I have made some clear bodies using Smooth-On's 327. I've been casting the parts in batches under pressure. Since these resins take a little longer to set up, I'm able to pour 8-10 molds per cycle. The 321 can demold in about 15-20 minutes. the 327 can take 5-7 hours.
For quick/simple casts that don't require pressure, smooth-on 300 series is pretty good. It sets up in just a couple of minutes (sometimes less).

Thank you for the information. I've never done any casting or molding but I am considering an idea for a body design. I appreciate your help.

Has anybody made customs from these yet? I'm really interested to see how they look "in use".

I have one in the works right now.
I just wanted everyone know that I will be casting one final batch of bodies to take to mego meet. I honestly don't know if I'll have time to assemble them before the meet (meet attendees may be treated to a sale on unassembled bodies). Whatever figures I have left after the meet will be offered for sale here. After that... I'm done. These were fun, but after making 30+ I'm spent.
