    Celebrity GI Joe's

I always thought one of the most fun things about the Real American Hero line was the fact that Sgt Slaughter and The Fridge were part of the Joe team. One of my disappointments was Rocky didn't actually get made into a figure after seeing him in the Marvel Comics Order of Battle #2.

What other "real life" Celebrity characters would you have liked to see join the Joe Team Past and Present?

I woulda flipped for a limited edition mail order only Mad Max:The Road Warrior G.I. Joe. His arch enemy could of been Zartan and the Dreadnoks. I'm pretty sure i used a beat up Clutch in this manner for duration of summer 1983 (yes the movie came out the year before but 9 yr old me would have to wait to see it on betamax).

      Chuck Norris.

With all the MIA movies, and Delta Force he was huge in the 80's.

And don't forget how popular ninjas and kung fu were in the GI Joe universe...

I always thought R. Lee Ermy would have been a better fit than Slaughter.

              Hmmmm....

Vincent Price would have made an awesome Cobra agent. John Wayne as the former head of the Joe team. Clint Eastwood as their urban combat specialist.

Oh man.... I feel some customs coming on....

With theJoe/Marvel connection, seems like Captain America could have gotten shoehorned in.

                  Or with the Vietnam connection...

He invaded the 'Nam title, surprised Frank Castle never ran across Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Stalker.

You mean R Lee Emery would have played Sgt Slaughter better than Sgt. Slaughter played Sgt. Slaughter?

Mister T for me. Fighting that Headhunter Drugforce line.

Chuck Norris can come just to make look T look even better.

                    As if.

Norris had his own Karate Kommandos line, remember?

I always wondered if that one Cobra Boxer guy didn't reuse some of the tooling they'd developed for Rocky.

We can say that now but back then as a Westling star of over a decade and mutiple time champ in mutiple leagues Slaughter was a perfect cheacter for joe - at that time is stock and trade to fame was being the "DI" in wrestling which was a show more aimed at a younger audience than it is now. And like Ermey he really was a marine (but not a DI as far as I know)

Lee wasn't a star in 85, he had done a couple of films portraying his DI persona before Full Metal jacket 87 made him a cult star (which may have come later with rentals). He has a fleeting apearance in Apocoyse now as an air cav officer (basically he was the technical advisor of the film and got a cameo). Boys in Copmany C is the best and you can see home much he smoothed his DI performance for Film between that and FMJ. Purple Hearts was a flop - a vn war film in a 50's ww2 romamntic war film style hardly the best choice for when it was made)

later Hasbro must not have wanted to pay for his likeness as Lee markets his motivational figure with one of the off brand 12" joe-like companies (21st century toys I think)

It couldn't have helped that the RAMBO cartoon figure licence was sold to coleco

it's the is the general beleif that Big Boa was the intended enemy for rocky (Balboa vs big boa) not actually a reuse of left over parts.
                          Preproduction: Rocky

but since all his stuff was developed they released him and reworked the card to make him an enemy of the Sarge (Joe's di)

Fridge was a HUGE (pun intended) name in 1985 after the bears superbowl. LT's promence as a media figure began in 86 when the giants rebounded from the loss to the bears in 85 to go to the superbowl.
