Looking for some information and pictures of the Excel Legends of the West figures. Mine have a copyright of 1976, but they may have been done as another line a little earlier than that?
Wow--I was actually coming to the forum to ask a very similar question. When I was young, I collected Legends of the West by Empire Toys (a company I really want to learn more about), and it's only been as an adult I found out the line was apparently also released by Excel? I agather this was some sort of regionalism? From what I've seen (and this is from sellers on EBay and such), Excel called the line "Little Legends of the West," but the images I've seen suggest they are the same line. I think Excel also released some of the Mego-like larger dolls, as did Empire.
The Empire line ran from the mid 1970s into the early 1980s (I could still find some as late as 1983 or 84, but those were likely remnants at that point.

Well, now that I look, some of my figures do have the Empire 'E' on them.
You don't happen to know of any visual resources on these? I was looking for them on Kevin Lentz' archives, but couldn't find any mention.
I find it very interesting that these pre-date the Kenner Star Wars figures. Aside from the FP adventure folks, there is not much at that scale earlier than 1977.
I will look for where I had some visual resources. Most of my info and such is from my and my dad's memory and what I've managed to track down in bits and pieces. I loved these figures and am definitely interested in getting the town playset they had.

The wagons in general were well done, and both the Fire Wagon and Peddler's Wagons were excellent vehicles with lots of nice details. I've never seen the town for sale but really want it. I know it was basically a cardboard setup, but given how well the wagons were done, I expect the town was a nice touch too.

I may have missed it, but is this the line that was found a lot at Woolco or woolworth's?...
Yes, I got many of mine at Woolworth's years ago.
