I need some help from an IT guru?

I have a rental property in WVA and one of the jerky homeowners is sending out nasty newsletters under a fictitious hotmail account and refuses to acknowledge who they are.

I'm pretty sure I know who is behind all this nonsense but would like to pinpoint the location either from the IP address of the computer it was sent from or the email address.

I have tried using some of the free sites that allow you to do this but it isn't working. Typically it stops at the last router feed (I presume) which is sometimes Microsoft in Washington state or other random places in the country.

It is possible that this person is trying to conceal their identity by running it through a series of routers, etc.

I am wondering if someone who is familiar with this can let me know how to accomplish this or send me a PM if you can help me but need to use your own software. It does look like there are some ways to accomplish through a paid service but I really don't want to shell out $20 to ping the location and might end up with a dead result.

Thanks

Good luck with it. It seems very cowardly of them to do that.

How nasty is nasty? Are there threats? Libel/Slander?

Forgo that route and go through a lawyer (if it's causing you to lose money) or police (threat to safety or property) and have the courts require the IP to release subscriber info.

Remember that case with the Cyberbullying mom that pushed a teen to kill herself? Many law enforcement agencies fear another case like that and take cyberbullying pretty serious now.
