    Caught in Spidey's Web

Completing the trifecta of awesome sent in by Scott during "Frogtown Frolics", at Thompson Park in Colts Neck, NJ. It's the classic Spider-Man appearance shot, notice that Scott is clutching a Mego Spiderman doll. Scott equates this event as not unlike "The Beatles at Shea Stadium" it's not hard to see why.
Thanks for the great memories Scott!

That's an awesome shot. I would've absolutely flipped out to have met Spidey or Batman and Robin or Superman as a kid. The best I ever got as a wee one was R2D2 and Ronald McDonald.

Yeah, I'd have loved to have met the "real" Spiderman! When I was that age I was obsessed with the live-action TV show. Also around that age my friend and I discovered that the "real" He-man and Skeletor were coming to the Mesa, AZ Lionel Playworld, and we counted down the days. Then when we got there it was just two guys wearing hideous flesh-colored costumes. Their muscles were pads of stuffing sewn into pockets, and their eyes had this blank, dead look to them.

That was my first lesson in the vast gulf that can occur between expectation and reality.

If any one of you met Captain America like this in the 1970's, it's likely he was really Johnathan Frakes. He played Cap America a lot at these functions.

              Great picture.

I actually ran across a Spidey at a local book store when I was a kid. He was signing copies of "Marvel Tales" comic books. While you commonly find comics in bookstores today, I actually don't remember seeing them all that much as a kid - so the bookstore connection doesn't make much sense to me. Although, this is around the time Spidey was on the "Electric Company" - so I guess it could have been a "let's promote kid's reading" event. Anyway, meeting Spidey certainly made my day.

Man these are great pics. I doubt if my mom would have taken me to see any of this stuff had she known about it. Celebs really didn't impress her, and I doubt for would have stood in line for an hour just so I could get an autograph and a quick hello. All you guys that got to do that were lucky.

That is great! If I'm not mistaken, this Spider-Man costume looks just like the one from the "Electric Company."
