P U!

They really stink, you know, smell wise. Besides their odor, they're great! The added shoulder swivel improves the figures 100X. I hope Cast-A-Way makes new pieces, including a female body. I'm not too happy with my ClassicTVToys female body. It's looser than a... well, you fill in the blank.

What techniques do you use to get the CAW heads onto the bodies? I tried heating it up so it was softer, but I had to resort to slicing off part of the bottom so it could slip into the body cavity.

The Castaway body should become the industry standard for 8" figures.

It just flat out can't be beat.

mine smell funny as well. to get the retro head to fit in the body remove the hard plastic disc on the bottom of the head with an exacto knife and you can then work the head into the body

Interesting. If the head is vinyl I use a blow dryer on low to soften and push into body. If head is resin then soften body with blow dryer with LOW setting along with shaving the plug to fit.

If you only knew of the "personal touch" Jason gives every figure he sends out, you'd understand that smell.

I've placed two orders in the past year and the bodies I received (Caucasian ones only had this problem for me) smelled kind of burnt. :yuk: The plastic must have been hotter than normal and thereby ended up with the burnt plastic smell I guess. The smell on mine seemed to be only coming off of the leg pieces. I just stuck mine on a windowsill one hot summer day and let the breeze wash over them. By the time I got home latter that evening the smell was pretty much gone.

Careful, the title of the thread alone might deter anyone from doing business with CAT unless visitors have read the actual thread in its entirety.

Good to know though, I'm going to try the blow-dryer and see how that works for me getting a CAT head onto body.

CAW bodies are great, because how else could we have Bruce sulk with Cap by his side?

That is funny! Looks like Cap is about to cut his hair? Are those shears in his hands?

Nope, they are Batman's gloves. He threw them off in a fit when he started pouting about the Joker killing his gf.

Swivel arm = awesome. I wish they had skinnier wrists though.

Swivel arm = awesome.

I like the swivel arm idea but my CAW ones popped apart very easily if you used them and I switched em out for Doc's bodies on my Phantoms. I didn't like the hands either, they were too soft. Not sure if they are all like that or just the Phantom ones. I think the shoulder joints were the best thing about the CAW bodies but I like the Mattel shoulder joints better. It eliminates the rubber band altogether which I've always seen as the drawback to most designs. I really can't stand anything else about the Mattel body other than that truthfully. They really just suck out loud. The wrist pins are too thin to stand up to a child's play IMO. I can't picture them lasting with long term play. They look like He man figures with the squat appearance too.

Haqvent gotten one yet. I'm VERY interested in teh Kung Fu grip and Swivel Arm Battle Grip.

I notice they sell just the biceps. Maybe I'll get a customiser on here to switch out some of my guys.

I like Mego hands to look like MEgo hands, so I might stay away from the non Emce hands.

Plastics smell terrible. It's ALL toxic.Manufacturing with them is even worse.

Through the years I have melted too many heads to try that. ONLY method I use is heating water then soaking the pieces. Sometimes it makes flocking come off

Not to steal Castaways thunder but I'm really looking forward to Zica's build-a-figure: http://www.zicatoys.com/

Nice proportions, no rubberband, looks like a down-scaled 12" body. That to me looks like a good update of the classic Mego.

No thunder stolen Sandy:wink: We make the best Mego-ish-like body. If you want it to look like a MEGO, have improved articulation, and not fall apart we are the best option. Were good with that:silly:

As for the smell? Well, that's plastic for ya. Just like the new car smell it does go away eventually:rotfl:

Castaway bodies rock. I love em and have never noticed a funny smell. Now I have to go home and smell all my customs, like some kinda freak. Thanks.

Dave,
I am and always will be a proponent of Castaway bodies. Between you guys and Doc's bodies....I can't lose.
Incidentally, i recently heard that you guys are on the third wave of your Castaway bodies; by this i mean that you guys worked out the 'small kinks' that were plaguing 'some' of your earlier bodies. Is there any merit to this?
Castaway,.........ALL the Way!!!

If true, do tell.

Love Castaway Bodies.

Any chance of making any all BLACK or WHITE?

I'm in agreement! However, I do wish the neck plug hole was a *tad* bigger and the bodies slightly less tanned :)

That said, they're the best bodies out there by far.

I will agree with the color point. I would love to see these bodies the same shade of white as ClassicTVToys' bodies. It's even paler than the actual Mego bodies, but it matches Mattel's color pallet much closer.

Yup, and it did. It really is no big deal to anyone concerned. Just air 'em out if ya get one that has a bit of a burnt plastic smell people. I did and the ones I had gotten with this very minor affliction are perfect now after a day on the ol' windowsill of an open window.
Cast-A-Way does make the very best Mego-ish bod out there - HANDS DOWN!

I thought the smell was a part of Dr Eville's design. I figured his exposed brain was infected and the smell was added to make it more realistic. I think I'll keep believing that. It's a much better idea than just smelly plastic.

I agree, the Castaway bodies are the best repro Mego one on the market. Once I get rid of my pile of CTVT's on customs I'll get a few more.

I too LOVE the Cast-A-Way Bodies...they ROCK!! But I too think they are too "tanned". I mean...they're even a darker shade than the Mego Ponch.:please_y:
